The only one I have a pic of so far (the 52B might get a whole studio session soon)

First handgun, but don't expect to see that comp on there for long. Looks nice, adds weight, bitch to clean....

If you can find some Norma TAC-.22 ammunition, do try it. The best I've found in the 22/45 chamber and barrel. Are you going to put a can on it?

Can? Shorthand for Suppressor? (Yeah, WAY out of the loop here)

Nope - I like it just as it is. I may get my MechEng kid to turn me up a barrel weight to replace the suppressor, but that I can clean around, though.

It was a bright sunny day in Banks, Oregon today so I decided to take some new pictures of my arsenal.

Our social director Ivan Chesnokov does not agree:

"IN RUSSIA WE ALSO HAVE RULES OF COURTING. DO NOT BRING SIDEARM TO FIRST TIME WITH GIRL. SENDS WRONG MESSAGE, THAT YOU ARE BAD CONSCRIPT WHO WILL RAPE GIRL. ON FIRST TIME HAVE DISCUSSION OF GLORY OF PARTY AND DEFENSE OF MOTHERLAND. ON SECOND TIME MANY DRINKS OF VODKA TO MAKE GIRL WANT FUCK; MATCHING ENOUGH DRINKS MAKES DANGEROUS TO CARRY SIDEARM. ON THIRD TIME IS DEFINITE FUCK. AFTER THIS YOU MAY BRING SIDEARM ALL AS LIKED."

A little late getting in on the gun parade, but my wife finally felt confident enough to let me release some of her work into the wild.

Pretty standard 870, nothing special. Mesa Tactical stock and side saddle, will probably put a light on the fore grip at some point. Then maybe a holo sight. Then a laser. Then a bike tassle on the end of the grip. Whatever makes me feel special.

My 10/22 precision trainer. Started as a stock factory model 20 years ago, then I decided to get into long range center fire. Turns out it's freaking hard (there's math and stuff), and the rounds are pretty spendy even pouring my own. Decided to update the Ruger while we acquire the basics, so I added the Boyd's stock, heavy barrel, slapped on a 3-9X40 I had laying around, switched a few innards (VQ extractor, hammer, firing pin, etc) and replaced the mag and bolt releases. This one brings me a lot of joy, it can print pretty consistent 0.5" groups on a good day provided I'm doing my part.

More to follow, depends on what we haul out to the deck over weekend beers.

Forgive me - pet peeve. At what range is it printing 0.5" groups?

I could get my 22/45 to put 1,000 shots into one hole at a couple of inches, but that doesn't tell much of a story. :)

Yeah that would be a handy piece of info, huh? At 100yds. That's with the right ammo (regular CCI), juuuust the right amount of copper in the bore, near zero winds, low humidity, not too much coffee in my system, etc. Pretty much purely impractical, ideal conditions.

It'll still stay inside of an inch to an inch and a quarter on mediocre days. Wrong ammo, shitty wind and a full pot of coffee in my and all bets are off.

Coolness. :)

It's the one piece of info that most people leave out, even gun magazines during test reports. :)

Morphed... Comp is history, stock sights replaced with Williams Fire-Sights, and a Holosun red-dot added for the days when I want to go "high-tech."

Next up - remove the overhanging part of that damned rail. Hacksaw, grinder, and "Backyard Anodizing" (black Sharpie) for the ground-off end.

For the money, I love the red-dot. Now, if I could just get my shooting up to scratch we'd be all set -these short guns are a very different story...

I finally got around to getting a FAL in the not-too-distant past. I did "roll the dice" on picking up this used Century Arms R1A1 build (L1A1 variant), but I got lucky; the gun functions flawlessly:

The gun did come with a cheap scope and bipod mounted to it, and it was missing the front sight set screw, but I have since remedied these problems. ;)

In another thread, someone requested pictures of my "California Liberal's AR". Here it is, a hybrid of evil black rlfle, and traditional walnut hunting look.

Image

Vital statistics: The lower is a Stag Arms. One of the first few hundred off-list AR lowers to enter California; I ordered it around Thanksgiving 2005, and it arrived before Christmas. Made California legal with a bullet button, since I wanted to keep the wooden pistol grip (I usually use Monsterman grips instead, but on this rifle the walnut was more important than fast reloads). Upper was custom-built by White Oak Armament, stainless bull barrel, low-profile gas block. The barrel twist is special for 75 grain bullets, since this rifle is intended for varmint hunting (we have lots of coyotes and smaller creatures around our house). The scope is a Vortex Crossfire 4-16x50 AO with illuminated reticle, on a JP Rifles mount. 80% of the performance of a Schmidt&Bender, at 20% of the cost. I forget where the butt plate came from.

And now the important part: the wooden stock set is actually from a local company, Ironwood Designs of San Jose. It got it in raw walnut, in trade for two AR lowers. I had to mill out the front handguard to make room for the bull barrel, and sand and finish all the pieces (they have maybe a dozen coats of Danish Oil, with rubbing in between).

How does it shoot? Pretty well. From a rest, it is trivial to keep all shots in a 1" circle at 100 yards, with Hornady ammo. It could be better if the front hand-guard were free-floated, but that is not an option with the wooden trim. It's more than good enough for its intended purpose. When shooting it freehand (without a rest), it can't hit the barn door from inside the barn, but there the limitation is the wetware, not the hardware.
