You can't go wrong for $50. But are you sure the barrel is long enough. :D
I've seen people do this with barrels that were rusted and badly pitted due to how they were stored.
Functionally, it's pretty good. The blue is very worn but it's not badly pitted. And it shoots well enough, although the spread is wide of course. Fortunately the barrel is 18.5 inches. The stock was loose and a bit beat up around the junction with the receiver. I spent half an hour with a rasp, Emory cloth and screwdriver. Now it's tight.

I like it! Has great character.
I'll second that! There is nothing more fun that beat-up looking things that still function fine.

Time for a choke-tube install so you can tighten those grou... ermm... "spreads"?

After putting a couple of hundred hard-won MiniMags through the 87 to "season the barrel", and then playing with odds and ends of ammo to see what "fit best", it is Federal AutoMatch bulk. (just ordered another 1500 rounds)

It was doing well enough at 10 and 15 yards that I blew the last 10 through her at 25 yards.... Was not expecting it to be this good - standing, two-handed.
If you don't mind my asking, where do you shoot?

Ask away - no problem at all. :)

Winters, I'm at MidState Guns in Coventry, RI where the range is indoors, heated, 25yds max. Cannot recommend it enough, and nice folks there as well. EVERY one must take a range safety test, and memberships are available otherwise it's $25 per hour - hire guns are available.

Summers, usually at the RIDEM range in the Great Swamp. Outdoors, 50yds max, rifles limited to rimfire (although there are rumours about relaxing that) and also has a shotgun range with clay-chucker and an archery range. More military-style than the indoor range, as there are no target rails and the range has to go Cold for target changes, but still friendly until you screw up. :) Must take their safety course/test, but otherwise it's free. First come, first served, hour max if there's someone waiting on you.

NEITHER requires or even asks about NRA membership, which is why I go there. :D

My DVC came in a couple of Fridays ago, got to shoot it a little during a class (didn't have enough mags to shoot the entire class). The mags finally came in this week and I included them in the picture because they cost as much as most of my pistols. Yeah, I like it.

I couldn't leave this down in the Membership Card thread because, don't you just want to eat up this sweet stock?

Image

I also put it here for others who want to mess with their stocks. I did this once before with pine tar, but I was not satisfied. Because the Maple had been through a fire, it was even harder than normal, and I was having a heckuva time getting the pine tar to penetrate. I changed my technique via lots of experiments, so I re did this stock.

It's a post war Czech Mauser 98 with a Timney trigger and a Leupold. I will change the scope to one with a round eyepiece rather than this TV screen one. I think I have parallax troubles there.

Old, Nato, membership card is there because if you're afraid to say you own guns, you probably shouldn't use guns without adult supervision. If you think the jack booted thugs will come to disarm you, you'd best dig a hole, get in, and pull it in after you. Not to hide from the jack boots, but from the laughter. :yikes:

That stock looks like a long stick of butterscotch candy.

Man, that reminds be of the FN Browning Model 150 I had. Regret selling that thing, it was so precise. Might have to get another or something in that style, like a High Standard or Woodsman.

(Not mine but same model)

Here's my stable as it sits currently. I got a chance to break in the Aug recently. What a joy that thing is to shoot! I don't understand people's issues with the trigger. Yeah, it's a bit mushy, but I can still put rounds in the ring at 100 ft. I'm going to go back to a 90 degree fore grip on it since the 45 just isn't as ergo as I thought it would be. My support hand was COATED in soot after 120 rounds from being in such proximity to the compensator.

In order of favorite to least I say: Aug, PPS, 1911, Titan .25, and lastly that Chief's Special Airweight. The PPS is my EDC.
