If you start with a 30/30 and make it straight instead of bottlenecked you have a case that holds a 255 grain bullet with a .379 diameter and that is a 38/55. The double triggers on the bolt action are called set triggers. The rear trigger is pulled to set the front trigger which will then fire the rifle with an extremely light touch.

I had a set trigger on my CZ 453 .17 HMR. Instead of a second trigger, one pushes the trigger forward to engage the light trigger mode. The set trigger was adjusted to 8 oz. It was great fun to shoot. I swear I only had to think about firing and it went boom.

I was so happy to find my long lost stash of .22 short ammo that I got some special handguns to shoot them in. This first one is a very rare Walther PP Sport in the aforementioned caliber. The high speed ammo shot and functioned very well in it.

Ths next one is a Hammerli International rapid fire 22 short. It did great, as expected, with CCI Target ammo, but I was surprised to find it shot and functioned just as well with CCI .22 short CB caps,

It's a 9mm. It had a nice blued finish, but the finish wasn't holding up as a carry gun, but it's so accurate and comfortable that I spent nearly as much on the finish as I had on the gun. They are a great little solid steel gun, maybe a bit on the heavy side compared to a compact polymer gun. They sell for around $200, but in my opinion, you'd have to pay a lot more to get a gun of better quality.

After realizing that after writing 3 books and numerous articles about British firearms that I no longer own any, my closest friend decided to give me this deactivated British Sten gun.

Although over the 60 years I amassed disparate gun collections I never bought any military firearms, I did collect guns used in movies. The MI Thompson that can be seen behind the Sten was one of 3 used by Tom Hank in Saving Private Ryan.

I spent much of my life working in law enforcement and ended up teaching Crime Lab and crime investigative techniques to prospective officers in a Criminal Justice department. I never had to use a firearm in any of my jobs and are thankful for that. I can't tell you how much it bothers me that so many folks seen to feel they have to go about armed nowadays.

i find that very disturbing too. i'm 66 and have never been in a situation where a firearm would have helped. and i really don't expect that to change, even in today's heated climate. i'm pretty confident that 99% of us, maybe even 99.9, will go through our entire lives never "needing" a gun. the part of the world i live in just doesn't seem that dangerous.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

I actually agree with that sentiment; I think that we have too many yahoos out there with access to too many weapons. However, with that said, we all have individual and personal concerns.

FWIW I carry a can of pepper foam on my gun belt, largely as a reminder that using lethal force may not be necessary and should be avoided if possible.

I can tell you that from testifying in cases where civilians and sworn officers were forced to use deadly force you don't ever want to get into that situation. Believe me its even tougher for LEOs, but they are provided with attorneys. Few civilians can afford an attorney in a court case. Pepper spray is your best bet. Despite what you see on TV it more often effective than a taser.

It has drawbacks. Wind/breeze is one. Cost. It is perishable.

I have some steel pipe and a machete behind the seat. Bought the wife some pepper spray but her work keeps taking it going through the security entrance. Then she has to get a locker, so she is reluctant to even carry that. She has had death threats and has had to have armed escorts to the garage. Luckily she works in a place where there are a hundred armed LEO's. Mainly detectives.

Hopefully pepper foam will work better in windy situations than pepper spray. But there is no perfect situation when force is warranted.
