Re: think a walmart scope could work on a mosin 91/30?

If it's for a rimfire, it won't hold up on a mosin- the kick will knock it off center for sure. There are some that I've seen folks use on the Mosin that are pretty inexpensive though-the Tasco pronghorn for a truly low cost scope (under $50) or the Bushnell banner for $85 would probably do you fine.

The Tasco sounds ultra-cheap and you'll probably get what you pay for. Just don't expect much.

I have a sub-$50 Simmons 3-9x40 mounted on my Mini Thirty and it works just fine with fairly tight groupings. Whatever you do, make sure you put some Locktite Blue on the screw threads. Recoil on the 7.62x39mm will turn the scope into a projectile under 30 rounds if you don't. :)

Mosins are full-powered .30-cal rifles. If you wouldn't put it on a .308 Win or .30-06, don't put it on a Mosin, either. That cheap $50 made-in-China crap *MIGHT* last 10 rounds. Maybe.

The scope I would recommend for a Mosin (or a Rem 700 ADL, for that matter) is Redfield's Revolution. You get Leupold VX-1 toughness and goodness, for somewhat less money. Nikon ProStaffs also get high marks, but given that the equivalent Redfield is so close to Nikon's prices, I'd go for the 'Murrican scope in this case.
