Interesting read. Woman just mentions firearms at work and gets fired. Sues employer on breach of collective bargaining agreement - termination without just cause.
This is not the case itself, just a decision against summary judgement that tried to squash her claim.

2Innocuous or not, these days it's unprofessional and just plain stupid to mention bringing a firearm to work. You just don't do that.
Also....Lewis University, just outside Chicago. Not exactly gun-friendly there.

3Did not appear to be much of a threat, provided what was quoted was true.
The woman worked at a college. I don't work at a college but still would not consider making such a statement at work.

4And NewSpeak raises its head again. Remove the word, remove the concept, remove the danger.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

5It was a stupid thing to say in that context. Not a poptart case here.
Re: Woman fired for mentioning firearms at work
6Agree it wasn't the best judgement, but I think the employer was overly sensitive and misguided. Or have we gotten to a point where we just cannot offer honest perspectives about work issues anymore? The woman was frustrated with being "picked on" at work. She was expressing understanding of why people feel they have no recourse other than violence. So HR decides to punish the messenger instead of asking WTF is going on here to make an employee feel so boxed in. So what - she said "gun". I guess we should all just lose our minds over that.
Who was more idiotic - the employee or the employer?
