Two part epoxy should be strong enough without a dowel. You can also fill voids and sand or file it down. It will look funny but your hand will be right at home. I do wood work but I don't think I could replicate the precision sculpting of any part of that stock. I use T-88 from, http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/w ... luegun.php
