So tonight I finally got around to installing the DAO hammer that arrived in the mail from Charter Arms a week or two ago, along with a smaller set of grips. Not quite sure if it will stay in this configuration or not yet, but it's definitely much smaller and concealable set up like this. The old hammer may get bobbed and re-installed, but we'll see. Having the option of SA if you want it is really nice...

Following the brief instruction on this site, the task was really not that difficult:

This is what it looked like before and after:

That cylinder ring looks like you've been shooting the carp out of that gun.

Our older Charter arms Off-Duty models had this kind of bobbed hammer. Just as smooth for drawing.
But when you pulled the trigger a little bit, it was easy to grab with the thumb and pull back for SA we did it all the time.
I don't know why they stopped making them this way. Now they have a shroud.

That ring is part of the reason that I got such a good deal on this gun. I've only fired 50rds through it, but I have dry fired the hell out of it!

Gigi, I tried to get one of those bobbed hammers, but apparently they only make them for the 44 at this point. Like I said though, I'm considering just doing it myself to the old one, for the reason you stated.

My 44 has the half-bobbed. I think I saw some of these on Numrich for sale.

They're listing it as out of stock. :eh:
