Caputo's A Rumor of War, an autobiographical account of Vietnam, is his mostly highly acclaimed writing. Let me be the millionth person to recommend it.
His newest book, Crossers , is set in Arizona and Mexico, and deals with the crossings and cross-ups of individuals, families, and cultures over and along the US-Mexico border. It is a page-turner. The double agent El Profesor, a syncretist, is another book waiting to be written.
Good stuff…read it.
