The story of one family's ordeal under the bloody Khmer Rouge, First They Killed My Father shows what happens when self righteous fanatics seize power seeking to make Cambodia great again (so to speak) by eliminating the educated elites so that the "real Cambodia" can take their country back. Yes, I saw it very much through the prism of *it can happen here too*. In Khmer, subtitled. Directed by Angelina Jolie.
Available on Netflix.

2I've had a hard time getting through Ken Burns "Vietnam", I don't think I could make it through this one yet. Yes, the far left and far right use similar tactics.
