Marlene told me once that she had a load that she put in 357 brass, but used standard primers. I think it 158g over some measure of 2400.
I'm wondering if there are other powders you could do this with. Just looking for some plinking loads.
I'm thinking Trailboss would probably be GTG. Anything else?
Re: 357 brass, but standard primers
2Before I sold my 686 my go to 357 load was 158 grain flat point over 4.7 grains of titegroup with a non magnum primer it was tame load.
Re: 357 brass, but standard primers
3Almost all of the faster standard pistol powders work well in 357 with standard primers. Unique, Universal, Trail Boss, AA No5, bullseye, probably all the colored dot powders.
Need mag primers for those powders that are generally thought of as magnum pistol/small rifle powders: H110/W296, IMR 4227, etc

4Yeah, I figgered they'd go bang in a consistent way, regular or magnum. As long as it's consistent round to round, fun may be had.

Re: 357 brass, but standard primers
6Nobody claims a need for mag primers with 2400 anymore. I've used st primers with it since the 80s. Also with the 44mag and heavy 45colt loads IHMSA shooters claim that st primers give better accuracy with less pressure using 110 ir 296. Experiment and find out yourself. It's not like you are going to be shooting in sub zero temperatures. Another powder that works very well in the 357 is Accurate #9
Iv'e shot that in my wifes 357 with std primers and it works great.
