We are supposed to get 1-3" of snow Saturday afternoon.
I have 4 days off. My plan was to buck hunt the first few days and perhaps use a doe tag towards the end.
With the weather coming in, I'm not sure I want to be 75 miles from home. Could snow 3-4", could be a dusting. I'm thinking about shooting the first doe that walks by and get back home before the snow starts.
So:
Stick it out, hunt during an ideal hunting day, and risk a 4-5 hour drive home
Or
Play it safe, get a deer, go home, and there's other days (albeit not as good) ahead
Re: Hunt the (possible) snow or play it safe and get out
2Hunt all four days. I love hunting in the snow! Of course, that's a fairly rare occurrence here.

3Fill the freezer. /thread

4Hunt. If necessary get a hotel room until the roads are clear to drive home. Like Mohead said, hunting in the snow is fun.

5This. I loved the snow, too, back when I hunted. 3-4" is nothing. Just dress warm.Mohead wrote:Hunt all four days. I love hunting in the snow!
We're back in the 40's and 50's come this month's New Moon. Time to go fishing on the Wapanapay one last time this year. What a strange autumn this has been. So warm up to now, and it's mid-November, the leaves are still turning. I keep wondering if the rut has been thrown off.

6I'm definitely hunting all 4 days, all or parts of. It's not as easy "don't be a pussy" [which no one here has said]. It's a matter of waking up at 2:30am and not getting home till 7:30 4 days in a row. Add the snow and the one night I won't make it home till probably 10.
Even best case, it gets exhausting

8Don't risk the snow. Drop a doe, get meat in the freezer, no hypothermia.

9Since I managed to hunt deer only during the three days when it was rainy in California this season, I would say stay out there!
I just got some nice gore tex bibs from Cablela's since my mountaineering gore tex pants are noisy enough to scare deer from 100 yards away.
Zip up and enjoy!

10Oh look! Everybody had the sense not to but you. So close, but not quite, just being a place where that kind of shit isn't even in play. Maybe next time.curtism1234 wrote: It's not as easy "don't be a pussy"

11Hunting isn't life or death [except for the quarry]. It's much more important than that. Hunt everyday no matter what the weather. Many is the time I have been back in the Colorado Rockies or out on the South Dakota prairie during a deadly blizzard because hunting is so important. Everything will be fine as long as you have your winter survival kit.
