Election Threads - Everyone Please Read

1
As we all know, the election season is upon us. There have already been some, ah, intense discussions on the forums.

This is a reminder that, while many of us are liberal, not all of us are Democrats. We have members who support the Green Party, members who identify as Libertarian, even members who identify as anarcho-syndicalists. Further, we have forum members who live in very red states, forum members who live in very blue states, and forum members living in purplish states. Everyone here has his/her own reasons for voting the way s/he does. Telling forum members "you must vote this way" is not conducive to civil conversation; it tends to devolve into name-calling and general animosity. Also, we don't appreciate lectures on how we are wrong to vote for one candidate over another, or possibly not vote for a certain candidate, third party or mainstream. So take this as your first warning on that subject.

This is also a reminder that certain behavior is not tolerated here. Go review the forum rules if you haven't reviewed them lately. In particular, the following are not tolerated:

Invidiousness
Repeatedly spewing hateful, resentful comments; or comments intended to cause animosity.

Trolling
Making comments intended only to disrupt the board by provoking regular members of the board into an emotional response. These are usually aggressive new board members who don't like the board and are intent on disrupting it for their pleasure.

Comments accusing, either directly or by implication, other forum members of being stupid for their voting choices will be scrutinized strictly. Repeatedly poking forum members with comments likely to cause an emotional response will likewise be scrutinized strictly. You will be warned. Continued behavior in the face of warnings can result in banning.

We are a generally friendly group here. Let's keep the forums that way.

ETA:

TL; DR: Don't be a dick.
Anything unattempted remains impossible.

Like coffee? (or tea?)

I'd add "don't be a dick" as an additional way to interpret the above.

We've been down the "lesser evil" road, and many of use believe it, but many do not. I am not going to link to 2012 threads, but it got downright nasty, the threads are still there, and the search function works. Proselytization (is that spelled right?) goes over poorly (in any way you might think, except maybe "Holy Black"). You can say how you are going to vote, but you can't tell others how to vote. And you really can't tell them they are stupid for not agreeing with you.

No, this isn't for anyone in particular, its an effective summation of 4 years ago, and we are seeing the tendrils of a repeat.

When in doubt, talk about your guns, talk about your last range trip, talk about a good deal at the LGS.

Be civil, use the ignore function and don't pee on the rug. We just had it cleaned.

Because we have seen it before. Here.

Folks come here to talk guns and to a lesser extent (officially) gun politics. Actual politics gets just as emotionally over charged here and that's not the point of the forum. Plenty of places to call people stupid on be 'net.

In an effort to avoid any more hurt feelings by people who feel targeted, we created a forum for the purpose of discussing the election. Folks who want to remain sane are free to avoid clicking in there.

The rules still apply.

Don't pee on the rug, its new.
