Longtime Lurker Saying Hello

1
Hey all, I've been lurking around here for quite some time so I know that if I start posting without making an introduction someone will be sure to give me a finger-wag.

I first heard of the LGC over on Democratic Underground years ago, when it was still possible to post there and not be run out of town for even suggesting that firearms weren't evil. Like most people here I find myself continually under fire between my progressive views and my enjoyment of shooting sports and carrying a firearm for self-defense.

I hail from the Detroit area, and have worked in the auto industry most of my life. Spent 9 years working on the line and the last 8 months as a tradesman. I'm LGBT and have a wonderful partner. Food, wine, and cigars are probably my vices, but I'm damn good with all of them if I say so myself (and I do). While I am tooting my own horn I'll throw out that I'm also a published author. Please don't ask, it's smutty stuff. I'm not embarrassed about writing porn for money, but I'd rather stay anonymous. :P

Anyway, there's my intro post.

So, you are Kilgore Trout? I've read quite a lot about you :D

They say that the mind is the largest erogenous zone. I love to read.

Howdy and :welcome: from Oregon!

I used to have relatives off Outer drive by Rouge Park. Bramell St. Visited once in January - from California - and was prepared for the cold weather with a flannel over my t-shirt.

I was born in Monroe! Worked at the Ford plant there when it was open. Usually I'll shoot at Wolverine in Brownstown. Not the nicest range, but usually it's not crowded.

As for guns I have a Smith and Wesson 638, 586 L-Comp, Walther PPK, HK VP9, and a Remington 870.

Wheel guns are an obsession of mine within the overall obsession of stuff that goes bang. I've been buying snubbies for a while as I carry them, but I have a 686+ 6" and a 64. Snubbies I have 5 or 6, including a 2.5" L frame airweight in 38 and my favorite which is my avatar, a Miroku Chief.

Wolverine I've never been to, but I imagine Top Gun's new digs has taken a lot of business. But not crowded is good, I'll have to try them. There a club in Monroe I may join, as they seem more tolerable than most, and they have a 200 yd range.
When only cops have guns, it's called a police state.
I carry due to toxic masculinity.......just other people's.

Top Gun's new facility is really, really nice. Top notch in every way, but it's a madhouse. My favorite gun shop is Magnum Force in Monroe, but I haven't been there in years.

You're right about revolvers. To be honest I usually don't shoot them quite as well as semi-autos but I just plain like them more.

The best range in Michigan is Williams Gun Sight near Flint. 1500 long guns to paw in the shop, prolly 250 handguns, and ranges with active, but polite and helpful safety officers.

The other range in metro Detroit I like is Firearm Exchange in Livonia. Better tracks for the targets, not a wire with inevitable seesaw but a solid track which holds the target stable. More of a minority crowd as well, so no right wing political bullshit.
