Shout out if you're from Connecticut!

1
Hey Y'all.

I just returned to CT from Southern California where; will you get this, it is easier to shoot. In CT I have been unable to find a club in the state where NRA membership was NOT a requirement. Out in Cali there are plenty of clubs that will let you just shoot for a fee and then there is the BLM land which is a true Wild West.

Is there anywhere in Connecticut where I can join a club? The member map leads me to believe that I might be one of or the only LGC forum member... Shout out if you're from CT!

no, sorry, north carolina.
and bolts are fine, i have a couple, you can see them at the end of the gun porn thread.
i shoot at a DNR range, no affiliations required. lately they make you watch a safety video, sign a release and sign in, but after the first time it's just the signin if you have the $40 annual pass
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

i currently drive about an hour to shoot, even though there's a range right here in my town, for a variety of reasons.
Maybe I'm searching the wrong way..... Thanks for the tip.

EDIT: I just took a look at the results and most of those are private clubs that I've already investigated. There were a few indoo ranges that are public but I'm looking for more than pistol.

I'm in RI, and use the MidState Guns range (25 yards only, but great for pistol) in Coventry. They are liberal-friendly, but many of their customers aren't, so I tend to take it gently there. Memberships aren't cheap-cheap compared to a gun club, but they are do-able.

Longer range, I use the RI DEM range in the summer. 100 yards max, but free and NRA free. They have a clay-chucker for shotgunning, and an archery alley if you're into that. You MAY have to be an RI resident, though...
"We have met the enemy and he is us." Pogo.

Navy and Marines - yes. I was there TAD working on some engineering issues. I am a mathematician and they brought in about 10 folks with math backgrounds for a special project at the sub base there. This was pre-computer engineering. I literally used a slide rule on the project (I still have the slide rule.)

The Navy wanted to recheck some of the work General Dynamics had done for the project. We were there for a couple of months.

But it wasn't the folks in Groton on base I liked so much. I met some new friends over on the New London side (locals) and they may have been the nicest folks I have ever met as a collective.

Yes, I grew up in CT and am just moving back. I moved from Southern California where everyone is friendly but no one really wants to be genuine friends. In New England I feel like I can meet someone 4-5 times and then if needed, they would give me a kidney.

That about sums up my experience in Connecticut as well. And your comment about making "friends" in SoCal resonates as well.

I made real friends in the Military, and many more on international standards groups, but frankly very few in my professional career. I blame myself, but a lot of it is cultural, and as you infer, regional.

To follow up with some info for anyone in CT who reads this going forward that doesn't want to join the NRA - I found a club.

The Wallingford Rod & Gun club does not require NRA membership. If you're a hunter this is an amazing club. They have a stocked fishing area, tons of archery, trap and sporting clay, stocked pheasant hunting, active members (with a bar), a Christmas tree farm. Their combined pistol/rifle range is a little lacking. 65 yard max at a few stations of the maybe 8 total stations. I'm not too bummed about the limited range because of the quality of the club. They quote 1 year waiting list but if you show up (as I did) during an orientation they will most likely accept you on the spot. It happened to me. They say that orientation is the important hurdle. Those who do not show up for the voluntary orientation will wait the full year - or more.
