Oh, sorry lads. That was not my intention. Just thought I should extend some sort of continuity.

In fact, some of these may not be a good fit in this forum at all. Maybe more in the "Gear" section. Dunno.

Up to you of course :)

I was reading about a BOB, particularly with regard to the Zombie Apocalypse, and they said take cash.

Is cash going to be worth anything in such a situation? Aren't most store owners going to want to eat your brains? The rest hoarding their stuff knowing money isn't worth anything and instead trading goods and services, aka, barter?

Yes, carrying cash, bills & coin, is a newb mistake.

Note: I don't put any stock in ZA or SHTF. I'll need more compelling evidence we're heading down that road: record unemployment, GDP through the floor, etc.

But to take the scenario at face value, would money be of value?

If the entire nation goes Walking Dead? No.

But far more likely are lesser disasters in which you might still want to grab a bag of supplies and skedaddle, and in those money would definitely come in handy. Everything from a hurricane hitting your home town to your house catching fire.

In those cases, I agree. Localized natural disasters don't cause a total collapse of society. You'll still see the best and worst of human behavior in those, still. Hope for the best, but be prepared to deal with the worst.

cash will be worthless, and zombies are a real threat.

you guys laugh about zombie, do you know what a zombie is ?

zombie is the 300 million Americans that do not prep, think it is a joke ,
a zombie is the hungry family wondering the streets to steal your food and supplies

If, SHTF, look at Katrina, what did we learn. when the interstates were closed down, the stores were empty in less than 24 hours of food, those that had no prep were instant zombie.
also learned.
IF you are a city dweller and your plan is to throw your gear in your truck and go.
you will be caught up in a traffic jam, most likely have your gear stolen ,
you need to have all your gear, AT your get away, NOW.
forget vehicle, your only transportation is your feet

a still will be a good investment, booze will bring a premium
cash will be useless,
it will be a barter system,
toiletries will be valuable as well as medicine

When your in Zombie country...take American Express, a Mossberg 500 and a couple of bandolier ammo belts...don't leave home without it!

Seriously though, I have been thinking about supplies, what sort of foods and making a Medical bag in such an event.
water filters and purifiers...definitely, and maybe purifying water could be a barter thing.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.

the emergency food like wise or others you really need to watch out for them. they sell you a 7 day supply of food,
but, you must look at calorie content. a man can not survive on 800 calories. trying to hunt fish or seek shelter.
i grom a garden, and dehydrate beans, peas,

a small bottle of bleach in your bob is sufficient for emergency water

if you are looking at medicines, cross reference human antibiotics with fish antibiotics.
you can legally buy fish antibiotics but not human, they are the same thing in different dosage

That the cops will kill you if they feel like it and they will get away with it.

Did you learn something different?
I learned alot about prepping and changed my ideas on some key things.

do we have crooked cops YEP, did we have cops violating constitutional rights, yep,

all i can say about that is stay away from them.

Cash will probably work for a little while until people start catching on. The biggest currency will be what skills you have and simple comforts turned into rarities. I found the book of ely to be a good idea of what trading would be like. Simple chap stick may go along way, if it gets really bad.

Lol booze willl definitely go along way. I figure if one could barter skills such as finding and producing water as well as being able to get food through wild edibles and hunting, lastly medical would be huge. You could probably live very well as medic

That can be said of a lot of people, though a surprising number haven't realized it just yet. It's third on the master list of survival priorities, it is extremely heavy (approx. 8 pounds per gallon), and each person needs about a gallon of it every day; some need more.

Not everyone can feasibly (or legally) drill a well so, if you can, congratulations!
