So, I was doing a radio check with the new antenna, transmitting to a local repeater, and making sure I had the repeater shift and PL tones set up correctly, listening on Echolink on the computer.
Hours of futzing with it, changing settings, tweaking things, no reception through the repeater.
Or so I thought.
On a lark I fired up echolink on my iPad, and tada, could hear my test transmissions just fine.
Apparently, the windows firewall was getting in the way. I hate windows 8.

Re: Always check your gear...
3I have a quad band yaesu mobile (770, 2m, 6m and 10m), a kenwood 2m mobile and a kenwood all mode transceiver (that I can't transit on, only tech). And a couple dual band handhelds (a yaesu and a couple baofengs). And of course echolink. I have an SDR radio, but not got it working yet, want to dedicate a laptop to it).
Been waiting for help to mount a proper external antenna outside for the bands I can transmit on, but my friends are unreliable, so I finally hung my "portable" antenna indoors.

4Wish you lived up here. I know a group of people who have radios and no idea how to make them work together. Really.
No lights in the radio room?

Also, not sure I could teach anyone anything

I wish my HOA would allow and external antenna. On top of that I have no pipe chase so running an antenna in the attic will be a bitch.

7There is a great book on stealth antennas from ARRL.STLWaffles wrote:Inquisitor wrote:Been waiting for help to mount a proper external antenna outside for the bands I can transmit on, but my friends are unreliable, so I finally hung my "portable" antenna indoors.

Also, some real decent jpole antennas that you can hang in a room corner

Re: Always check your gear...
8My room is the basement. It really limits my options. I am most likely going to tuck a line in my siding to run up under the soffit this spring/summer. I cant even hit the local police repeater in my new house without one. My old house I got all kinds of interesting stuff

Re: Always check your gear...
9Echolink and Radioreference then
Try a jpole, you might be surprised. My house is a bit of a faraday cage and I can hit a couple local repeaters (now that I have the damn thing working).

10Is that the Kenwood I see in the stack?

11It is. It powers up. The buttons I thought would change bands don't do anything, so need to find a manual.Mason wrote:Is that the Kenwood I see in the stack?
Also need to get an antenna, I got to squeal on a couple frequencies, so hopeful it works
Re: Always check your gear...
12Cool! I'm hopeful too. I hate to see something useful wasted.
