Montana Gold .38 125gr.JHP bullets-

I took a flyer on 100 Montana Gold .38/.357 125gr. JHPs. They appear to be a very well-crafted bullet... but I would be shocked if these bullets expand in any media at any velocity much below 1400 fps. The hollow point is small and ridiculously shallow. Basically ball ammunition at a Gold Dot price. I loaded them up as standard-velocity target loads; they have no use in a defensive role in a .38 Special as far as I can see. I won't be buying more.

I haven't researched these much, but when I've seen them mentioned, I got the idea they were mainly intended for target shooting.

I bought a pack once. I think it was the day I bought my .38 dies. They made holes in paper, but they may have been the bullets that had poor neck tension and could be seated with thumb pressure. I'd have to dig through my notebook for a while to have any chance of verifying that. That observation SHOULD be written down somewhere, but it's possible that I was negligent.

I settled on Xtreme (and sometimes RMR) for my plated bullets and Nosler when I want the real jacketed deal. I'm pretty sure the Nolsers are more accurate.

I'm only killing paper and my self-esteem.
