Softer feel to shooting it. 147gr is all I run these days and it runs in the p-01 just fine. Heavier bullet with lower velocity to me results in less felt recoil.

Since I know you shoot USPSA, I wonder whether that factory 147gr would qualify for major power factor?

Is that one of the reasons you are interested in it? You'd need to chrono it to be sure (power factor is some kind of formula involving bullet weight and velocity). But you might find some discussion of that on the action shooting forums.

Elmo, no I'm not trying for major PF. It's more for range shooting and less felt recoil for new shooters. I'm doing much more teaching than match shooting these days.

Shin, thanks for the note--I think picking up a case would be worthwhile. If it doesn't run in my SP-01, which I've done a bunch of work on, it will probably run in my M&P9 and PPS M2, which are basically stock.

I used 115 gr. exclusively for years and then tried 124 gr. I have no idea why, but my nines consistently group better with the 124 gr., which is all I use now.

9mm major exceeds SAAMI specs and should only be shot in a race gun which is purpose built for that load. Easiest way to make major power factor is to shoot .40

This. It seems to have more push and less muzzle rise.

If these are what you're looking at: https://www.targetsportsusa.com/federal ... p-661.aspx, I've recently fired a few boxes through my SP-01 without problem, though its not been modified. I believe the AE 147 is supposed to replicate Federal HST 147gr for practice at a lower cost. https://www.targetsportsusa.com/federal ... -3547.aspx.

I was using Stand 1 Armory's 147gr that was sub 1000fps and its run great (they just went out of business). I recently picked up some from Freedom Munitions that's 950fps at about $0.21/round and they're also working well in the SP-01. https://www.freedommunitions.com/ammuni ... n-new.html

Thanks for that clarification with possible safety ramifications, Spara.

Yes, these are the ones I had in mind. Thanks for the review!
