Hello,

This identifies the bolt camming surfaces and a potential problem with current imports.

Clicking the picture below will open a new window. I am doing it this way as I've had requests for this sort of thing on several forums.

My previous videos were mostly text and pics – slideshows – but I decided to set a camera on the drill press and do this live.

There are various theories flying around about why the Mosin's bolt closes fully when only in partial battery. It's simply to keep the bolt from being open enough to become a projectile.

It is not, as some speculate, a decocker of any sort.

I hope someone finds this useful!

Thanks,

Josh

Here's hoping I'll be doing that on Monday. Thanks for the video.

You know, the sooner the better. If you can work it in like, yesterday, then I'd appreciate it.

You see, I made the vid after seeing one too many people using this "decocking feature" to drop the firing pin on a live round. Someone will be killed and the gun will be to blame. Modern bolt actions do this, too... It keeps the bolt in battery when firing. Assumption is the mother of all ****ups, I heard somewhere once, and folks assuming this is a decocker is going to lead to a major one!

I'm not the end-all of knowledge, but I do know this is dangerous.

So yes, please do! Soon!

Regards,

Josh

Thank you! I hope this keeps someone from getting shot too badly.

I tend to agree with Darwin, but actually letting it be carried out is sometimes hard!
