Going to be a spendy little stock (In mosin terms anyway). The ones they've got for the Remington 700 and M1 are running just over $300. Still. Very, very interesting. Ah well. Most expensive $145 rifle I've ever purchased!

Good question. I'd imagine that a good gunsmith could put one together for you- will require some welding if memory serves, but you could throw a 7.62 bull barrel match grade barrel on there and have one hell of a rifle.

EDIT: Evidently not welded:

This project might replace me getting a PSL

I may very well be in with you on getting this done.

"Match" barrels may be had for beaucoup bucks from all kinds of barrel makers. However, if you keep your eyes open, you might run into something like these machine gun barrels. This is a very long thread, but many projects, including one of mine, are in there. These barrels rock. I'll put pics of the latest target on its own thread on Sunday:

A good gunsmith with the correct reamer set can take a barrel blank and make one for you. It costs.

I still think putting a detachable mag on a bolt-action milsurp is goofy.

I've also become very quick at loading my Mosin from stripper clips, once I got good spring-steel clips that came with Russian surp ammo and threw away the flimsy Chinese clips I bought previously, and practiced a bit.

But good point about the scope, Shinzen. If you're using a scope mounted over the ejection port (which in turn requires a bent bolt), rather than a forward mounted scout type scope, you won't be able to use stripper clips.

Dramatically improved accuracy by shooting handloaded ammo rather than surplus junk - $200 investment in equipment.

Right, so let me tell you what I paid for my moa Remington 700 with a scope in .308.... (hint it was less than 600)

Mosin nagant, fun to shoot! But I question spending the money to "trick out" a MN because you only bought it BECAUSE it was so cheap and cheap to shoot! (and Fun!)

I dunno... I love my mosin... will I some day bleach the cosmoline outta that sweet sweet siberian birch stock? probably.... Maybe buy one of those adj sights from the Smith fellah... probably...

but investing enough to buy 3 mosins for one new stock... I just dont see it!

Anyway.. have fun if that's your thing, I just cant fathom it!

Dang: supply and demand. A year or two ago I got my UK59 for $90. Custom installation, chamber reaming, and all the rest was about $160. I scrounged the rest of the parts. I'll be into mine for under $300 not counting optics. Right now it has a LER scope on it, but it'll get the short eye relief long range scope once I get the bent bolt handle from the Boltman (about $50--forget exact amount).

So many zillions of Mosins were made, we have many options. Moreover, great barrels were made just after the war, but then most armies went to the 7.62x39 round, leaving new barrels awaiting milsurp projects. Keep an eye out. They're out there. Patience.
