FDR with M1903 Springfield

1
Seen above is the 35 year old, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Franklin D. Roosevelt firing and handling a Springfield M1903 at the Marine Corps’ rifle range at Winthrop, Maryland in 1917. The photographs were taken during a range demonstration of some of the US Military’s small arms currently in service for top brass and politicians

Neat stuff. Despite being a photo-op he appears to know his stuff.

I see he knows how to use a sling.
You know, when I see pictures like this, I have to wonder how people managed to retain any hearing at all, back in the good ol' days.
Hell is where:
The British are the chefs
The Swiss are the lovers
The French are the mechanics
The Italians make everything run on time
And the Germans are the police

Love it when that image resurfaces. Very nice copy of that pic in Brophy's book:

FDR has also been caught with a Mosin:

He was also a prolific cocksman, even polio didn't slow him down. When I was in Norway in 94 it was all over the papers how he was banging the future queen of Norway when the royal family was staying at the white house during WWII.

:roflmao: Quality right there. Just plain quality.

Xela, thanks for sharing the additional pics. Good to see him starting off early with the bow- had one myself at that age.

My pleasure.

We surfaced some of these pics a while back. But I just love seeing them again.

I'm particularly interested in the FDR Mosin shots. First Mosin pic has a caption dated 1918, and second one is dated 1920. It must have been personal weapon.

I've left my mind wonder about that Mosin so many times. Could it be a Remington? Did it see service in the Rusian Civil War? When did he get it? Did he like it?...

It was probably brand new and given to him from remington arms.
