Trump supporters: the media is the enemy

A majority of President Trump's supporters in a new poll agree with the president’s claim that the media is “the enemy of the American people,” according to new research from YouGov.

According to the data, more than 60 percent of “Trump approvers” said they agreed with the statement, while just about 15 percent of “Trump disapprovers” said they agreed with it, according to BuzzFeed.
When people say that you are their enemy, you need to realize that means they are your enemy, and you need to respond appropriately. These people are enemies of a free and open press, and to me that makes them enemies of America, no matter what their nationality is.

What percentages of the general population replied. We start with the assumption that Trumpests have some problems with critical thinking skills, historical research, and gullibility.
These results are similar to asking a group of Vegans how they like butchers.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

The problem with disagreeing with Trump Supporters (for me on this issue) is that they are not really wrong. America has been being manipulated by the Oligarchy via The Media and still is to a very disturbing degree.

I don't see them deciding that every news source is "Fake News" but we *are* being manipulated by the Big $ to keep our minds distracted while we are being fleeced and enslaved. We only see and hear about what certain sources wnat US to see and hear.

If there's little/no critical thought to why they call something fake news, 'anything not 100% positive about Trump = fake news' is a pretty low thought criterion, then they're plenty wrong.
Much like in a math class, how you get to your answer/conclusion is as important as, if not more important than, the answer/conclusion to which you come. Just because Trump supporters get the same answer as you doesn't mean they worked the problem right, they just bumbled into the right answer or copied it from somebody else.

It's like voters saying that we need to throw the bums out of Congress, but their congress person is not a bum. The media is the enemy except the media they read.
The research is based on a representative survey of 2,100 American adults conducted by YouGov in November, as well as an analysis of anonymized desktop web-browsing data collected from participants during a one-week period.
One key finding is that respondents had a tendency to overreport their use of partisan news sources. “Democrats seem to overreport visiting the Huffington Post and Republicans tend to underreport doing so. The converse is true for Fox News — Republicans tend to overreport visiting the Fox News website while Democrats seem to underreport,” the researchers write.

Nyhan said this shows that “people’s perceptions of what they’re reading and what they’re actually reading are different.” Guess said it’s possible that people overreport their consumption of partisan media to reflect their political identity. “Democrats are more likely to say they visit the Huffington Post than they actually do, for instance, because being a Huffington Post reader is possibly seen as part of being a good Democrat,” he said. “Put together, patterns like these suggest that the conventional wisdom is skewed toward thinking that people's media diets are more polarized than they actually are.” Nyhan said this new data is “consistent with the notion that fears about ‘echo chambers’ may be overstated.”

Bingo!

Here's another example from today's propaganda piece straight from the horse's a..er mouth (the daily Whitehouse email):
Rebuilding rural America

Today, President Donald J. Trump travels to Nashville, Tennessee, to deliver a major address at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Annual Meeting. It will mark the first time since 1992 an American president has spoken at the event.

That symbolism is important. From his earliest days on the campaign trail, President Trump has highlighted the difference in prosperity between rural America and the country’s wealthiest coastal enclaves.
One sentence explains why this message resonated across America’s interior. It comes from the opening lines of a report from President Trump’s Agriculture and Rural Prosperity Task Force, which the President will share during his speech today: “While other sectors of the American economy have largely recovered from the Great Recession, rural America has lagged in almost every indicator.”

Watch the President’s speech live at 4:10 p.m. ET.
The good propaganda has maybe 5% truth. The best propaganda is like this - up in the 90% range.

It seems like our politics have jumped out of the "do good things so that what you say is supported by fact" to "it doesn't matter what you do as long as you can tell a good story".

If the Dems think they can beat this by 'going high' they're going to fail. You can't beat this level of manipulation by doubling down on 'business as usual'.

This anti-MSM message has been going on since Obama was elected. For years, it was just a marketing campaign to get listeners to continue to listen to the right-wing radio and TV pundits. It is still a marketing strategy, but it has real consequences now. I don't think the right-wing-media realizes that the anti-left fervor will eventually be their own downfall. Most likely, they are being finally exposed for their ridiculous views. Worst case, any crackdown on media will be turned on them in the future.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
It is an unfortunate human failing that a full pocketbook often groans more loudly than an empty stomach.

Follow-up to yesterday's White House travel piece...
26 years later, a president hears rural America

On January 13, 1992, President George H. W. Bush spoke at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Fresh off a 12-day trip to Asia, he talked about trade, security, and prosperity for rural America in the new global economy.

For more than a quarter-century, no American president returned to speak at the convention, which is a staple of the U.S. agriculture industry. Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump broke that trend.
Here is what he told the convention:

• “We have been working every day to deliver for America’s farmers just as they work every day to deliver for us.”
• Tax reform means that “American farmers will be able to deduct 100% of the cost of new equipment in the year you make the investment.”
• “We are reviewing all of our trade agreements to make sure they are fair and reciprocal.”

The President signed two orders moments after he spoke, both of which act on the recommendation of his Agriculture and Rural Prosperity Task Force to expand access to broadband internet in rural America.
Read: “Our farmers deserve a government that serves their interest.”
Repubs have been so successful marginalizing the media that there's little the MSM can do to counter WH propaganda. Now that the media's been neutered, I expect the crazy train to accelerate. If the Dems try to lead with fact without a parallel plan, they'll lose.

I guess my point is that the Forever Trumpers think in 1's and zero's, black or white, bumper sticker logic as do many Americans now. I'd love to tell them to shut it *but* we *are* being lied to, manipulated, cheated, and groomed by American Media on a daily basis.

The tiny details are important but, in the end, they ain't wrong. While I'm not sure Media is The Enemy we can't outright discredit the Trump Morons who wave aside all negative Trump news as Fake due to the plethora of real live fake news and bullshit the Media cooks up every day.

They are only half wrong...totally delusional but only half wrong.

I've been listening to the more radical of the mainstream media.

This started when liberals accused me of getting my ideas from Fox News one too many times.

I started listening to Fox after that! :D

However, to balance it out, I started listening to MSNBC and CBS News, too.

I'm hearing the same amount of bias and misinformation (later corrected) from both sides.

The difference is that Fox covers dirt on the Democrats and the others report dirt on Republicans.

The stuff Fox reports isn't as readily verifiable because fewer agencies seem to be reporting it, but it's worth verifying.

My BIGGEST problem is with opinion pieces and talk shows -- both sides make huge mistakes and present them as factual opinions. Not cool.

I'm feeling increasingly alone in this.
