I have really been enjoying shooting my two revolvers. Something about their clockwork mechanism really appeals to me.
I have a stash of 22lr and would like to buy a little revolver to shoot some of it. I really enjoyed the NAA mini revolver I used to own. If I could have hit anything with it, I would have kept it. That little gun made 22 exciting again!
I'm thinking of getting one of three mini revolvers.
Ruger Bearcat
I held one and like it a lot. It's beautiful and looks like a lot of fun. Sights are slightly better than the old Bounty Hunter I used to have.
The NAA Earl
Qu'est-ce que c'est "sexy?" Apparently pretty damn accurate for a mousegun. Plus, it will shoot 22 mags too.
NAA Mini Master
Maybe the least sexy, but maybe most practical. Great sights and a covertible to boot.
BTW, I'm not considering anything with a barrel shorter than 4" because of dumb CA laws. Also, only thinking single action right now.
Thoughts?

2I love my little Single Six, but it is a bit (hah!) larger than your 3. If it was my choice of those, I'd go with the Bearcat....

Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
3I think the Bearcat would make a good beginner gun, especially for those with smaller hands.
Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
4I like revolvers..and .22 revolvers are a lot of fun...their clockwork mechanism...and usually like 10-12 shots in an older pistol.
They are getting scarce at a good price these days.

5I'm a revolver fan too. Except with single action .22lr revolvers. My big fingers can't seem to deal with the little buggers going in or coming out. Lost a lot of live rounds in the snow up here in Michigan, fumbling with numb, freezing digits.

6Of those, definitely the Ruger. Hard to beat a Ruger SA.

7You had a NAA. You sold it

9Another vote for the Ruger. My wife has the single 10 and its a lot of fun.
Out of curiosity I poked my head in at Uberti and it looks like they have at least a couple of .22LR versions. They also have some that can swap LR and Mag cylinders.

11i have an old .22 revolver that was my great grandfathers. love that gun!
Do you see that there's a single six convertible? .22LR and .22WMR, plus there's one with a 9.5" barrel for shooting down bat planes.

12I love the shopkeeper. 3" barrell though, so not CA compliant.
Not really interested in a full size 22 wheelgun. Had one and it was ok. The NAA was fun...it just didn't have any sights and shooting it a 7 yards ( the shortest distance at my range) was impossible.

13I have a single six. I shot comedians bearcat at the first meeting. Neat gun. The single six might be more long term fun. You can do some precision shooting with it or just cook off rounds. And you usually get a WMR cylinder as well.
-edit-
Missed the other responses somehow. I said nothing new.
If you want mini the bearcat is a solid pistol.

I happened to get a bearcat last year, so I'll give you my impressions.
It's definitely kind of small, that not as small as that NAA! Haven't held the NAA, but I've seen it at my LGS before. Back to bearcat: So I shot this with my daughter and also other newbie shooters before. It's actually a great size for kids, so if you have any , they'll feel right at home shooting it. For us adults (and for giants like you) while the gun is small, it's not uncomfortable to hold and shoot with. You'll find that it still feels good in your hands... well at least for me, I have medium hands. If you've held it at your LGS and liked it, then it should pass the test.
My version has the adjustable sights, I forgot if all models have it. But that helps if you want to fine tune it to certain 22 ammo. Having never fired any other single action guns before, for me cocking the hammer felt like it takes more effort than it should. This might smooth out after hundreds of rounds, but it just felt slightly stiff. There is a transfer bar safety so you can load up all 6 in the cylinder. That's the other thing I like -- since it's a revolver it isn't picky on 22 ammo, and I guess you can even use 22 short. I forget if there are conversion cylinders or not to use 22 magnum, you'll have to look into that.
So anyways, I think it's a great gun for kids and because it's single action they'll not go through ammo so fast. This way they can learn the fundamentals of shooting. The only thing I didn't like, to state again, is the stiffness of the hammer (it could just be me), and also it is more expensive than other single action 22s out there. But it's so purdy and shiny =)

15Thanks for the update!
Yes...I saw that it is now available with adj sights! That would be awesome.
In terms of yours, is the extractor sleeve along the side of the barrel still the unfinished aluminum? Or does it match the stainless? If unfinished, I'll buy the blued version.

16I don't see the Shopkeeper on the roster, but i do see the S&W Model 63 3" http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... rrorView_Y i might just be projecting my crush on the S&W 351PD on to your situation, though.senorgrand wrote:I love the shopkeeper. 3" barrell though, so not CA compliant.

17The three inch 317 is also on roster and weighs only 11 oz. That might be a hoot.
Of course, tracking down an "A" version might be hard...

18I think a double action .22 revolver would rock. I think adjustable sights would be appropriate.

19S&W Model 17-2, the king of 22LR revolvers (stems from the old K-22) Nice blued steel with double action (very, very heavy pull). I am sure the Rugers are nice, but a Smith is a Smith and my Model 17 has been super. It is both a carry and target gun - searingly accurate.
The Model 617 is also super duper, fires enough rounds (10) to make you think it is an automatic and it is stainless.

20Ruger Single Six was my *very* first personal purchase...I do love wheel guns. Sold the Single Six many years ago - now my .22 wheel gun is a 70's Bearcat. Don't shoot it much but I love it a lot.
I have owned NAM mini revolvers thru out my handgun fancy and like them as a pocket/past ditch option but they are pretty tiny and specialized to be fun for me now. Nice guns but not in my collection.

Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
21I believe Ruger is making the Bearcat with adjustable sights now. Lucky you on the ammo, I still can't find any worth buying.
Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
22A lot of my gun sales involved me getting them to throw-in some 22lr.
Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
23I think the S&W 317 might be in the mix...
Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
24I guess it's a Lipsey exclusive. http://www.ruger.com/products/newBearca ... /0916.html I wish I was rich I would buy one and spend a couple grand getting it converted to a 5 shot 32. I really like Ruger SA revolvers.
Re: Pretty Sure I Need a Little 22 Wheelgun...Thoughts?
25One of the funnest such guns I've shot was a '50s vintage Single Six flattop. That was before the transfer bar system so it has the four-click action. Nice little gun...currently owned by my dad.
