...it'll just blow up in your hand."
That's the first advise anyone ever gave me about guns.
So 'fess up, how many of you have had plastic frame guns blow up in your hands? Don't lie for the Glock lobby, tell us the real truth.
Re: "Don't ever buy a gun with plastic parts...
2Only plastic guns I ever had were Ruger SR9 and SR9c. Neither ecer exploded.
Yet she persisted.
Re: "Don't ever buy a gun with plastic parts...
3I have the Ruger SR9c, so far it hasn't blown up, I'm thinking failure points will be the plastic parts in the striker or the recoil spring.
I'll probably be replacing those parts soon with metal from Galloway Precision.

5Glock 19 and Ruger LCP haven't blown up, yet. I did have an all-metal cheap .380 blow up after about 50 rounds once, though.
Re: "Don't ever buy a gun with plastic parts...
6MP9 hasn't blown up, but the parts that contain the explosion are metal.

7Had a 40 cal glock blow up in my hands. It was the steel barrel splitting that was the problem. Not the plastic frame.

8zamak, yes, plastic, no.

10I saw a Glock blow up in a shooter's hand recently, shooting a vastly overpowered hand load. I think I mentioned it here.
I doubt a steel gun would have fared any better.
Be careful out there.

11I've had a couple of plastic pistols and I never worried about them blowing up. The only thing you might have to worry about would be the entire metal slide being launched backward at you. In general, it's stupid advice.
However, I did own two Keltec plastic rifles that, yes, I kind of worried might blow up on me. I also owed a Beretta plastic rifle that I never worried about blowing up.
Quality is more important than material.
I'm out of my plastic phase, so it's a non-issue.

Re: "Don't ever buy a gun with plastic parts...
15When I decided to purchase a 380 pocket pistol I chose the Remington RM380 because it has a steel slide ans aluminum frame. The only polymer is the replaceable grips. I have seen several reports of polymer frames breaking under fire. As best I can surmise it has been because the rail guides in the frame are metal set into the polymer. So that means any defect in molding the polymer slide is a potential hazard that the internal pressure upon firing could cause to fail. I just not into plastic guns.

18The FBI tested the crap out of Glocks before choosing them. Far more dependable than even an old S&W model 19.

20I have fired thousands of rounds through my Glock 17 and Glock 19, and the guns haven't exploded. The M&P Shield also has yet to explode.

25Haven't had any of my plastic framed guns blow up on me yet. I do know someone that had a Shield blow up on them, but that was a combination reload and mechanical failure that was not caused by a fault/failing in the plastic.
