I gotta get me one of these. I opt for the unreasonable.
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
3Since so few were made, perhaps I should just suck it up and get a BFR in 45/70. Not nearly as neat from a historical perspective though.
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
5Meh. I've shot the 500, and it's fine. I'd probably load it down a bit for any kind of normal shooting. Thinking the BFR with black powder loads could be fun
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
6Frankly though, neither one is what I actually want.
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
8That could be interesting. Though something tickles my brain about the legality of such. But if the 500 S&W is okay, perhaps it's just over that size that is no bueno for federal (and probably CA) law.
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
11Ooh. Now that's interesting. Some definite cash, but still thousands less than what that 577 will probably go for at auction. I'd have to dig through my couch and the neighbors couch for sure.
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
12As always, an interesting Ian find. The grip is similar to the Webley RIC.

13I must be genetically dull. I think a Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull would meet my most extreme needs.

14I guess the grizzly bears must be big up in Nor Cal? I am quite happy with .357 Magnum. I don't have my reindeer herd from grizzlies, though.

Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
15The .577 Tranter would likely have less recoil than the 454. The 500 or 45/70 on the other hand.....
Re: .577 Caliber Bland-Pryse Stopping Revolver
16From what I have read the 45-70 kicks less compared to the Casull. The 454 shoots best with chamber pressure in excess of 60,000. I've never fired a 500 S&W but in the BFR the gun has a very cartoonish
look. The 500 JRH is cut down brass that can be loaded to much of the same performance levels as the Smith round in a much handier package. You can launch 400 gr or heavier slugs at very high velocities and recoil can shorten your shooting career in very short order.
I have only read this but some feel that the 500 Linebaugh which is 510 is probably not legal in California which is why the different true 50 cals were developed.
