Speak to me of shotgun chokes

1
The lamber comes with 2 chokes installed but none others. The lgs isn't sure which are installed.

How do I figure out which ones are in there? How do I get more (I assume they are not universal?)? How do I remove them and put others in (I hear there is a tool)?

Google was less helpful than I hoped so I figured the hive mind might help. My other shotguns have fixed chokes so this is new to me :)

I find them on ebay for less than stores near me.

Look up the brand's site for model # for your gun. They aren't all interchangeable.

They're made for Lead-only and Steel. Shoving steel through a lead-only isn't a good idea but let us know if you do it.

Choke tubes are usually marked with notches on the front and engraving on the side. The standard is:

1 notch = full
2 notches = improved modified
3 notches = modified
4 notches = improved cylinder
5 notches = skeet
no notches = cylinder

Choke tubes are specific to manufacturer and they have made changes to their configuration over the years, so you need to be sure to use the chokes for your make and model of shotgun. The wrenches for removing them are often manufacturer-specific as well. The manufacturer's web site should be able to point you in the right direction. You might be able to find something that will work by taking your barrel into a gun shop that sells choke wrenches and finding something that fits.

When you take the tubes out, make sure to protect the threads. Keep them clean and always use a little lube when you re-install. Snug them up, but don't over tighten them. When shooting a lot of rounds, it's a good idea to check the tubes every so often to make sure they haven't loosened up on you.

Quick poking around on the interwebz turned up these. Pretty spendy though, I'd look around some more first. Didn't look like Briley had anything available.

Gunbroker turns up some hits

A little research shows that the Lanber gets pretty good reviews, so you probably made a good purchase :)

Here's a universal choke tube wrench that should work to remove and install your current flush-fit tubes:

The choke tubes I'm finding are all extended tubes that allow installation and removal without a special tool:
