A friend has the “Predator” version Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmore and thinks it is the most accurate rifle he’s ever shot.
I thought quite a bit about the LCRx. Given that I have a progressive tremor in my hands, I may be ultimately better off with a SA/DA than DAO. But it is a smooth DAO. Time will tell.
I didn’t get anything but a cardboard box. Not even a lock...

I mean, nothing against the LCR. It is what it is, which isn't pretty, but it's no hunchback either. Still not seeing .32 caliber ammo at the LGS in any flavor, but other stuff is coming back. LCRs seem to be coming back into stock though.

Re: Gun Porn Thread
3254I took it to a nearby by range the day I got with two other 22's, I shot it at ten and 25 yds. Two types of ammo and It seemed to do better with American Eagle then the Federal labeled stuff but they are both from Federal? Everything was on paper, but I need to get prescription shooting glasses badly (70+)and I probably had four double espressos by the time I got there. I plan on getting shooting glasses soon but should have an eye exam first, less coffee isn't really an option! I'm probably going to get several different boxes of over priced ammo and see if I can zero in on anything it really likes.
It's probably the lightest trigger I own, maybe lighter than the set trigger on a CZ527 I have; so a couple of the real fliers came as a bit of a surprise. Out of fifty rounds, one failure to fire, slide didn't close all the way, other than that it ran smooth. I cleaned it only after shooting it, so I'll see what its like next time out in that respect. I did only standing shooting with it this time and I'm going to experiment some with my supporting hand next time; but it fits my shooting hand very well.
If you notice I either fuck-upped rushing, I labeled the target before I took it down, or the gun comes with a portal to the future.

3260There is no fun in putting all shots through one small jagged hole. My range uses body silhouette targets - as long as I'm hitting center mass I'm a happy camper - and yes, my targets look like shotgun targets cause I use at 5, 7, 10, 15 ft. many one handed, some off hand, some walking and shooting (allowed). Very few from 25 ft. cause for me, that's GTF outta here distance.

Re: Gun Porn Thread
3261I've been working on getting my WASR the way I want it for quite a while now. It came to me as a pretty run-of-the-mill Century import, with cheap furniture, a slightly tweaked rear sight block and the Cali-mandated featureless grip. I've shot it a bunch, tried a lot of different parts and components, and come up with this configuration, which allows me to ring steel all day from standing position at 100 meters with shit Russian ammo.
Upgrades (?) are as follows:
-Romanian surplus laminate furniture
-Stark pistol grip (for real sized hands!)
-Cheese Grater style gas tube cover (because it looks cool)
-CompMag fixed 10 round magazine (ugh. but whatever... better than a fin grip)
-Mastermount enhanced safety
-Seven Armory fire control retaining plate
-ALG enhanced recoil spring (keeps brass from entering orbit and softens recoil)
-Midwest Industries muzzle break / compensator
-RPK-style windage adjustable rear sight leaf (fixes the sight block tweak issue)
-Midwest Industries Gen2 siderail
-Bushnell TRS-25 red dot
Hell of a fun gun to shoot, with a buttery smooth feel to the recoil now that I've got the ALG spring and the comp on the barrel.
Anyway, here's some pics.

Really like that side scope mount with the RDS. I want to try that vs the “scout” configuration I have. Very nice looking rifle.

I'm happy with this MI sidemount rail, although it was pretty damned expensive- I had a much cheaper one from UTG for a bit but it had an extra 1/16" of clearance above the topcover and it just felt too high, though it held zero just fine. I also tried the Texas Weapon Systems Dogleg picatinny topcover but couldn't get it to work for me- it caused my bolt to stick to the rear... TWS said to install a buffer, but I didn't want to do that so I sent it back (TWS was really nice about the whole thing and very helpful.)
Honestly I wish that I could just run the irons all the time, but I'm far sighted and that rear leaf is really difficult for me in lower light conditions.

3269Just slots for the belt...no clips.
Because of the light weight of the gun, I wanted rubber grips that covered the backstrap, which seem to be in short supply for n frames. These old pachmayrs should do the trick.

Re: Gun Porn Thread
3275OK - here's another one. Winchester 52B, "Bertha". A rifle bought by an old-friend-of-the-family's father for her when she went to college and wanted to be on the rifle team. 'Natch, in the late 40s, this was regarded as "boy's country" so he told her she'd need a rifle. Her Old Man obliged in the best way possible, and she was on the team.
Fast forward to '73 when I came over from the UK to the U of RI, wanting to join their team. Money was tight by then, and Coach Acie told me I'd need a rifle... Luckily, I asked the right person about where I could borrow one, and Bertha came home to college with me. A faithful companion, she was returned at the end of the year when I went home, and I thought little more about her until '84 when I moved back here with my wife and kids. Shooting had always been a part of Life, and I asked said old-friend-of-the-family if Bertha was still around. Amazingly, none of her kids wanted Bertha (too heavy!) so I was lent the beast again, happily. When Jinny (old-friend-etc.) moved to SC, I asked if she wanted Bertha back (this was about 5 years ago) and she said "No, she's yours."
So here she is, my favourite rifle for some 48 years now. A joy to shoot, and full of memories. The sling I used at Bisley in '72, a Brit-style double-point, and the Turk's Head knot on the grip aids hand placement.
"We have met the enemy and he is us." Pogo.
