Wow, just stumbled across this site a few days ago & was shocked to find there are others out there besides me!

I'm a 36 year old married father of one & a City of Chicago resident (South Side), who became the proud owner of a brand new Glock 19 yesterday. (I am keeping the gun stored in a rented locker at a nearby range located outside of the city due to the temporary illegality of keeping a handgun in my house. ). Life long outdoorsman who grew up shooting with my father, but never bothered to be a 'gun owner' myself until yesterday.

In my research leading up to my purchase, I stumbled across this forum and have enjoyed reading the archives.

Turn-Ons:
Universal health-care
Wallstreet regulation & oversight
Alternative Energy
Environmental protection and conservation.
Tolerance of my fellow man no matter race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Protecting my family & neighbors from vicious paper targets, clay birds, large mouth bass & Pheasants.
The Blackhawks & White Sox!

Turn-Offs:
The Daley administration (monarchy)
Fox 'News'
Pretty much every other gun website on the internet

I look forward to procrastinating during working hours with ya'll & hope to actually learn a few things as well!

Thanks !

Welcome to what now seems to be the Cook County Gun Club. :D Jokes aside, I'm a downstater - Belleville, and I share most of your sentiments except maybe Blacksocks and Whitehawks.

There do seem to be a lot of folks from Illinois here. Hopefully y'all will be having your rights restored soonly! :)

Welcome to the club, I can't imagine living somewhere that would make me hide my handguns.

Just remember that there are two kinds of people in here- me, and the ones who are wrong. :D

Heya Ric.

I lived in Carbondale for 7 years (going to SIU), so I know the area well.

I try to make it back to visit the Shawnee at least once a year. That is a pretty amazing part of the country.

Welcome.

I'm from Oak Park, but I made good on my escape about 5 years ago. Got my CCW largely because growing up in suburban Chicago I was always told that guns are BAD BAD BAD.
I don't like to think of my self as an artist so much as someone who stares at empty spaces and imagines s--t.

Welcome! Great choice on your first gun! I love Glock! The Glock 19 is my current and only gun (so far). I love it. I will be carrying it soon when I get a CCW. It's a great gun!

Go hawks.
Hey Paladin,

I'm in Beverly also, abouts 111th & Western. If your wife went to Catholic grade school, the we both went the same one. I'm pretty much 4 blocks away from where I was born & grew up (although I've lived in a number of locations around the country (even on the northside in Bucktown) in between). I do love the neighborhood, my wife & I actively searched out our house here when we were having our first kid. We bought the house knowing full well about the draconian gun laws, but the plusses outweigh the minuses for the most part. If we get the ban turned around in the next few weeks, things will be about perfect here.

Interestingly, I live only about 6 blocks away from Otis McDonald, of McDonald vs Chicago fame. His house is right up the street from the coffee shop I stop at every morning before I begin my trainride into work. I know that one of the pillars of his lawsuit is claiming self defense against the drug dealers & gang bangers on his street, but honestly it's not that bad. He does live in a rougher part of the area than I do, but it's not like he's in Englewood or anything. It's still Morgan Park, and not a horrible area of town...

& THanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

I'm LOVING the brand new Glock! The day I bought it, I discovered a seemingly endless supply of Federal 9mm FMJ boxes in the Crestwood Walmart for $9.47 each, and have put about 500 rounds through the new gun already. I've been shooting at Midwest Guns in Lyons mostly, (that is where I am keeping it in a locker for now), but some co-workers & I have a field trip set for Monday to go up to GATT (I've never been there before). I also hope to make it out to Buffalo Range in the coming weeks, I've not been there since I was about 16, back before the fire when they still did rentals.

YOU SHOULDN'T BE HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH GUNS, DAMMIT!!

It just a hotbed of gun loving liberals here in Illinois. After Chicago's handgun ban gets ruled against, we'll just need conceal carry here.
And let me tell you somethin' bout the whole "an ant can lift a hundred times its weight" buisness, it's a myth, how much do you think an ant actually weighs--like nothin, what's nothin times a hundred....IT"S NOTHING!
