STATEMENT: Dr. Ralph Northam On Gun Violence Prevention Policies

Richmond — Following the devastating terrorist attack in Las Vegas that killed 59 people and injured over 500 more, Dr. Ralph Northam released the following statement:

“I’ve seen the damage automatic weapons can do to a human body, and let me tell you—they’re restricted for a reason. Bump stocks and high capacity magazines have no place in civil society, nor do assault weapons. As governor, I’ll propose legislation to ban them, and to enhance our background check system to make sure guns don’t get into the wrong hands. Until I do not have a breath left in my lungs, I’ll stand up for the safety and security of all Virginians.”
Prior to that, not much was listed on On The Issues.

A second violation shall be punishable as a felony. It shall be an affirmative defense regarding a handgun violation, that a person had been issued a valid concealed handgun permit.
Keep guns out of the hands of criminals & the mentally ill
Being smart on crime is just as important as being tough on crime. We need to take low cost steps to help Virginia's finest do their jobs: keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, utilize drug courts and jail diversion to keep non-violent offenders from being incarcerated at taxpayer expense, and work with the federal government to enforce immigration laws, rather than diverting scarce state and local resources from other responsibilities.

in general i'm inclined to agree, gun-restricting dems are currently the lesser of the evils. but there's no guarantee it will stay that way. the pattern suggests to me that they will restrict guns more and more until there is no more crime (never going to happen) and once our guns are gone, it's kinda hard to get them back.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

Agreed on all points. Quite the conundrum.

It's like Poe's "The Pit & Pendulum" - there is no good way to go, but it will swing the other way if Dems go berserk, then we may have to vote for the evil right to quell the lefty. Checks and balances. Currently I will NOT vote for any supporter of the Grand Cheeto Poobah POS POTUS and WILL vote for Dem (or anyone that may possibly win over a Rep) regardless of their stance on guns.
"Being Republican is more than a difference of opinion - it's a character flaw." "COVID can fix STUPID!"
The greatest, most aggrieved mistake EVER made by USA was electing DJT as POTUS - TWICE!!!!!

I'm nervous. Don't make a lot of money, student loans left me pretty damn close to living paycheck to paycheck. I reload on a lee hand press just so I can get some cheap range time in, cast lead and small charges of fast powder. I've been setting aside a little money here and there, pretty close to getting the AR ive had my eye on, and now this shit happens. I'm starting to believe in God, and the evidence suggests that he isn't all loving, dude hates me. I think I'm just gonna go get a receiver real quick and if it's a full blown ban I'll hide it under the floor boards waiting for better days.
