Prior to that, not much was listed on On The Issues.STATEMENT: Dr. Ralph Northam On Gun Violence Prevention Policies
Richmond — Following the devastating terrorist attack in Las Vegas that killed 59 people and injured over 500 more, Dr. Ralph Northam released the following statement:
“I’ve seen the damage automatic weapons can do to a human body, and let me tell you—they’re restricted for a reason. Bump stocks and high capacity magazines have no place in civil society, nor do assault weapons. As governor, I’ll propose legislation to ban them, and to enhance our background check system to make sure guns don’t get into the wrong hands. Until I do not have a breath left in my lungs, I’ll stand up for the safety and security of all Virginians.”

Keep guns out of the hands of criminals & the mentally ill
Being smart on crime is just as important as being tough on crime. We need to take low cost steps to help Virginia's finest do their jobs: keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, utilize drug courts and jail diversion to keep non-violent offenders from being incarcerated at taxpayer expense, and work with the federal government to enforce immigration laws, rather than diverting scarce state and local resources from other responsibilities.
