CZ or a Colt Woodsman

1
I went to my local gunstore and they have a CZ P10C and a Colt woodsman. I have been wanting the CZ but that Colt seems like a rare find.
They are asking $425 for it.
Are they worth getting? Ammo sensitive or are the magazines hard to get?
I don't know what series it is but any info on those would be appreciated.

Maybe ammo sensitive. I don't know about standard velocity only guns but HV rated guns may cycle reliably only with certain brands of ammo based on my experience.
Definitely hard to get mags for. Aftermarkets are not reliable feeders supposedly but I did not try any myself so can't verify the rumor.
That is a fair to good price based on condition. They will not really go much cheaper than that if the original finish is somewhat decent, free of obvious rust stains. Refinished guns may look nicer but are actually worth less.

I meant to answer your other question. My second series Woodsman needed a good cleaning when I got it - it had not been shot in 30years or more. It feeds CCI Minimags as well as SV without problems. I have also fired Wolf Match Target without any issue. I don’t think I ever tried the cheap stuff.

I have to agree. I haven't found any ammo issues with our Target 3rd Series, except that I had a lot of failure to fire problems before I replaced the firing pin and spring. I was lucky and found NOS parts. I mostly feed it CCI SV Target, with no issues. The pistol is 60 y/o and while I'm not really afraid to shoot HV in it, I prefer not to, just because... There are springs available out there and depending on the pistol's age and (unknowable) round count, spring replacements might be worthwhile if you have any intractable problems. These pistols are lifetime keepers and they are worth spending a little money on. All that said, I don't consider myself a Woodsman expert. Bucolic and perhaps others here own more of them than I do.

There are some completely useless aftermarket mags out there. For instance do not buy these, they are terrible: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1270300 The feed lips are too high in our Woodsman. Perhaps they work better in 2nd series, dunno.

These on the other hand work just fine in our pistol: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1573770

Pricey, but they are a very accurate reproduction of factory mags and I have had no problems. Not a carry gun so no real need for more than 2 mags by my reckoning.

Good Luck. Pictures please if you buy :)

The Woodsman has had a very diverse following over the years, from Marilyn Monroe to Ernest Hemingway.

Hemingway felt it was a great self defense weapon and carried one everywhere. My son inlaw inherited his father old challenger made in the early 50s. Shoots anything just fine.

In continuous production for more than 60 years, these guns set the bar that other .22LR pistols had to meet. Had it not been for the Colt Woodsman, Carl Gustav Swebilius would never have produced the Hi-Standard series of pistols. These guns, which first came out in the 1930s, look, and perform like clones of the Woodsman. Then came the Smith and Wesson Model 41, which looks suspiciously like the slab-sided Woodsman Match Target Model. Finally, Bill Ruger launched his company in 1949 with a .22LR single stack ten-shot magazine pistol, with a fixed skinny barrel and strait blowback action. Truth be told, if there was no Woodsman, the rimfire pistol market could look very different today.

I went and put it on layaway since I'm a little short on cash .
It's a series 3 with a 6 inch barrel and comes with 2 magazines. It's in a pretty good shape.
I'm hoping to have the cash to pick in up in 2 weeks. I had every intention to take pictures of it to show you all but I got so excited when seen that it was still there that I forgot all about it.
