I need a better rear sight than what came with the 45-70 Handi rifle http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Rifles/youth.asp
These NoDakSpud set ups look like they aren't too delicate. Anyone use them before?

3I need something I can throw over a fence or out of a moving car without it losing zero.TheViking wrote:I haven't but that does look like a pretty solid piece of hardware.

4Have you looked at one of these:

I put one on my Marlin 1895 Guide Gun and love it. Solid as a rock...

5I think XS is in Ft Worth near here. I'm sure they would do the trick but this quest is as much Art as it is Function. The steam-driven bolt down (without needing a rail) appeals to me.dcramer64 wrote:Have you looked at one of these:

6If you look at the second link, you'll see that it's a direct bolt-on model, not a rail mount. The one on my Guide Gun is a bolt-on sight as well.
Re: Any No Dak Spud users?
7Wait, I just realized I use a nodak spud on my 10/22!
Except not that exact model, I have a slightly different one: NDS-26
They're alright, it works on my 10/22. The part is machined well though and I haven't had any issues on losing zero for both the irons and my QD Red Dot, but then again, I'm using it on a 22LR rifle. It's pretty good quality, so I think as long as you secure it well on your rifle, zero shouldn't be an issue.
The one complaint I have on it is that the left-right windage adjustment window is kind of narrow. Not too much play away from the center of the sight, so when you install it make sure you're actually at center.

8D'Oh! That's not bad. I had a fear of throwing the front-rear set up out of balance but that's both for that gun. It comes with different apertures too. Thanks.dcramer64 wrote:If you look at the second link, you'll see that it's a direct bolt-on model, not a rail mount. The one on my Guide Gun is a bolt-on sight as well.
