I'm looking to build a 22 rifle (either the ar or 10/22 variety).
I want to be able to shoot between 25 and 50 yards and maybe stretch to 100 some day.
I'm thinking of something with adjustable parallax, with an adjuatable power of 2-7, 3-9 or 1-6.
Scope will likely stay on a rimfire rifle, so a rimfire-only scope is fine.
Reticle should be something that I can shoot an Appleseed target without being obscured.
Any suggestions?
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
2I've been amazingly pleased with my Mueller APV 4.5x14 on my 10/22. They are great scopes for the money. Quality glass from Japan, good warranty and customer service. You'll see some fanboys that say you have to buy xyz brand, but for the most part rimfire sites all give Mueller thumbs up. http://muelleroptics.com/
Be sure to make good choices when you're being stupid...
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
3I love my UTG BugBuster. Inexpensive, short, nice reticle. Comes in a variety of fixed or zoomie powers.

My only criticism of Mueller scopes is they are very heavy. It would be fine for target shooting though, walking around not so much.
A lot of people don't like cheap scopes, but the Simmons 22mag is flat out legendary (and they have an AO 3-9x)

Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
5I love my Muellers. I have two APVs that I like very much although the reticle is a bit thick. I also have one of their side focus target scopes and an Eraticator. All have very nice optics - bright, good field of view, etc. the clicks are a bit mushy but I can live with that.
They are not lightweights however. Not extremely heavy, but you know they are there.

6the 3x9 looks like a good choice for a 10/22 takedown. Thanks!SailDesign wrote:I love my UTG BugBuster. Inexpensive, short, nice reticle. Comes in a variety of fixed or zoomie powers.

Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
9Bushnell also make a 2-7 scope with a 22 bdc reticle for about $90 on Amazon that I am also considering.
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
10I have been shopping for scopes lately and have seen some Leupold mid power scopes with adjustable objectives.
But may be a little pricey for a rimfire training rifle..
That Mueller 2x7 AO scope seems perfect IMHO.

12I strongly recommend this:
Nikon PROSTAFF Target EFR Rimfire Rifle Scope 3-9x 40mm 1/2 MOA Adjustments Adjustable Objective Precision Reticle Matte - 189 at Amazon including delivery. I think this is the best quality Rimfire scope there is. Parallax goes down as far as 10M and hits at 100. I use it with my CZ 455 and it drives tacks without effort at 50 - 100 is tougher - . The light transfer on this baby is fantastic and my wife noticed it right away. It is worth the money. Fooling around one time i popped a whistle pig through the eye at about 30 yards with Aquila Rifle Match SV.
An acceptable scope with parallax is the BSA Sweet 22 -http://www.amazon.com/BSA-3-9X40-Parall ... a+sweet+22 - costs less than 100. Light transfer is not as good IMO.
The one with the post adjustment is: BSA 6-18X40 Sweet 22 Rifle Scope with Side Parallax Adjustment and Multi-Grain Turret and costs about $125 or so.
Vortex also makes good scopes - some say the best light transfer - however, I am unaware of any with adjustable parallax, although this one is set at 50 yards:Vortex Optics Diamondback 2-7x35 Rimfire Riflescope with VPlex Reticle (DBK-RIM)
Every time I spent less I regretted it more. Look at Midway, Natchez Shooting Sports and Amazon and see what you can find. I personally am not a Mueller or a big L fan and the Simmons are short on light IMHO.

14I have been looking at the VX2 3.5-10 and 4-12 adjustable objective scopes. I'm looking for a used one in gloss black to match the .257 bob.senorgrand wrote:Got any models of Leupold in mind?

15Best light pickup scope I have is my Nikon, best overall optics is the two Leupolds. The other brands I have fall short compared to those two.

Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
17Think so, but verify there parallax adjustment and make sure there is not another one that may be a little better for $10 more.
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
18The only Leupolds worth buying nowadays in my opinion are the VXIII and up. The others have very cheap mushy adjustments just like Redfield and Weaver. I'd rather buy one of those 2 and save the money.senorgrand wrote:Got any models of Leupold in mind?
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
19I would get that scope in a heartbeat for your application.
I may even look for an older gloss black Nikon for the bob.

Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
20As for rapid fire 22s, I understand the love for 10/22s, but out of the box, the Model 60 shoots mucho straighter and is cheaper. Also, I blame much of the shortage of 22 LR ammo (right or wrong) on folks spraying it down range with semi rifles - hope you do not do that.

21I think that's exactly the reason for the shortagenmTom wrote:As for rapid fire 22s, I understand the love for 10/22s, but out of the box, the Model 60 shoots mucho straighter and is cheaper. As to the Model 60 - it is cheaper and it will be more accurate than a standard 10/22 (certainly the model with the barrel band). The trigger on mine though is terrible, like 11 pounds terrible. Also it is possible to wear the action out (mine went out after about 5k rounds during warranty, thank goodness), and at that point it's just a paperweight.
For occasional target shooting, I agree you can't go wrong with the 60 if you can live with the trigger. If the trigger is important, I'd personally probably buy the "walmart" 10/22 which is the sporter barrel and wood stock WITHOUT the barrel band. That way I just have to buy a green mountain sporter barrel and spare the expense of an aftermarket heavy contour stock.
I'll probably eventually swap out my 60 for a 10/22 but I do enjoy my Marlin very much.
Re: 22 scope recommendations with adj parallax
22If you are thinking about going the aftermarket barrel route, I strongly recommend stepping up to a Kidd barrel. You can go for an inexpensive trigger job but, IMO, it's best to spend a little more for Kidd. Lila barrels can be superb but I have heard some issues of QC. I cannot confirm these but I will say that there are a lot of Kidd fanboys for good reason.
I run five 1022s. Four are all-Kidd except the magazines. The fifth is a bit of a frankenruger with a Brimstone trigger job and a Feddersen contour barrel. It shoots fine for vermin and snappers but is not competitive with my Kidd rifles.
