It started when I got a great deal on an old Mannlicher Steyr carbine at an auction. That model loads with clips from the top, so mounting a scope is unwieldy. But a Lyman 57 receiver aperture sight worked perfectly, and enabled me to put rounds in the 4-inch circle at 100 yards.
Then I got an M1 carbine and AR-7, both of which have original peep sights, and when I bought an old Mauser I elected not to bend the bolt handle for a scope. Instead I mounted a Williams aperture sight.
Now I’ve even put a vintage Lyman 53 sight on an even vintage-r .410 shotgun so it will be better for small game etc.
I still shoot my scoped rifles, but for some reason I’m really drawn to shooting with peep sights. The combination of simplicity and accuracy appeals to me, and I love the clean look of an old rifle without a scope. Does anyone else have this affliction?

2Absolutely! 30-30 lever gun, S2Ks, ARs, SKSs, and on and on. I grew to love peep sights!

4I loved my old M1 carbine with peep sight. Now my Ruger Ar feels so comfortable to me. Not sure I even like my red dot on it.
