Kudos to Athlon Optics

Purchased an Athlon Argos BTR 10-40X56 about a year or so ago to get the big time magnification (spotting my own stuff at long range) and to get the most excellent BLR-SFP-MOA reticle. Originally I wanted a Vortex Golden Eagle after shooting my Nephews rifle with Vortex and falling in love with the reticle but not the $1400 price tag, Found the same reticle in an Athlon for $400ish and while the glass is not as good as the Vortex the Golden Eagle is *not* 3X as good. A little more CA in the Athlon but nothing that would affect performance. Super thin etched reticle with super thin floating center dot, 1/8th MOA detents, comes with lens covers and sunshade.

Got the Gen 1 version and have absolutely loved this scope - tracks virtually perfectly. Just...nothing bad to say about it until a few weeks ago I noticed I had the parallax/side focus all the way to infinity yet could not focus at 200 yards. Rats. Oh well, Lifetime warranty so we'll see if their word is as good as their reticle and bang for the $. Downloaded and printed the warranty repair form and contacted Repair and go a response in minutes.Took it to UPS Store and shipped it ground and it arrived in 2 days. Soon as the tracking said they had it I had a response within minutes. Damn...impressed.

24 hours later and they told me the scope had flunked the parallax/focus evaluation and that they were replacing the scope instead of repairing it. They shipped it Next Day and I got it today. Damn...I got a brand new Gen 2 scope with upgraded turrets that are *CrIsP* and absolutely top end. The glass is looking great and the scope really knocks me out. Well done Athlon and super duper thanks! :yahoo:

I'll shoot a pix or two tomorrow but wanted to say I'm an Athlon Whore for Life now. Best bang for the $ and Life Time Warranty administrated by the best CS I have experienced in my Life and *I'm* a Field Service Specialist and Customer Service Pro.

Yum....they say they did not improve the glass and only the turrets are upgraded on the Gen 2 of this model but it sure as hell looks good to me. The last Athlon Argos BTR looked almost as good as my 6-24X50 Vortex Crossfire II but this one clearly blows it's doors off in crispness at high magnification, contrast and CA. Plus the new turrets are click, click, clicky in the detents on the line of some really good scopes like the Nightforce and higher end Vortex.

Getting her mounted and rough zero's so I can zero her with live ammo tomorrow.

I am extremely impressed with this scope. Not sure I'd trade it for a $1400 Golden Eagle at this point. My only bitch would be a tight/short eye box as it could do with another 1/2" of relief but then I'd just be nitpicking.

Popped a laser 6.5 cartridge on last night at dusk and painted a target at 100 yards getting me on paper for when I get to the range...holy shit the Gen 2 version of this optic is built like a tank and crisp and tight and very impressive. Zero stop on windage and elevation turrets locks like a chastity belt....*ClIcK* that is audible and tactile. Needed more down rotation as I'm running a 20 MOA rail so I popped the knob off the top turret and had a gander at the locking mechanism. Wowee...loosen 3 set screws with the supplied allen wrench and rotate down until you get the desired zero and then rotate the solid lock plate to it's stop nubbie and tighten the set screws.

Wow. Very impressed for a <$400 scope. Well done Athlon.
