So I was in Big 5 and impulse bought a Caldwell bipod for one of my rifles, as I needed a one and it was there. I still need to actually get an Atlas at some point, but haven't gotten around to it- after using one on Marlene's rifle, it's really something else. That all said, I went to install it on my CZ 527 sling stud and the damned thing never quite fit right. I thought I had it on and had hit the screw with some loctite, but as soon as I pulled it out of the range bag on my morning of playing hooky from work, it fell right off. Which kind of screwed what I had planned for my load work up, since I didn't bring my alternate setup with me, so was forced to use what they had at the range, with less than stellar results for my load work up.
Come to find out, that style of bipod which attaches to swivel studs doesn't work on CZ studs. They're a bit funky in shape compared to US versions, so they have a tendency to fall out on one side of the clamp or the other. Once I got home and messed with it some more I realized that of course. Put said bipod onto some Uncle Mikes that I had laying around and it worked perfectly. Of course. Ah well. Have to restart my load work up and try again. I also need to bed the rifle before doing so.

3Who makes proprietary sling studs??? That's just crazy.
Sorry about that...I've had range trips like that.

4Well played Mason. BED the rifle is what I meant there. Apparently I wasn't proof-reading before posting.Mason wrote:Be the rifle you wish to see in your groups.shinzen wrote:I also need to be the rifle before doing so.
And yeah on the sling studs. Super stupid. To be fair though, you'd think that the bipod manufacturers would note that they are not compatible or that they would make them to work with that style as well.
Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
5I learned one thing - a monopod / collapsible stick for revolver sucks!! Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
6Buy a cheapo UTG bipod, with no springs'n'things. Attached to my CZ stud as easily as it did to my 10/22. Easy-peasy. $35 or so and you're good to go.

Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
7That's about what I paid for the Caldwell on sale. My last experience with UTG tripods was probably 8 years ago with my sks and I wasn't impressed with it, but have had some other stuff they make since then that wasn't bad.
Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
8Actually, IIRC, I too have a UTG bipod and it does fit my CZ527, FWIW.
I have too much stuff.

Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
9problem with bipods is sometimes you can't duplicate POI , groups, or barrel harmonics without using a bipod every time not that isn't the same problem you have with a Lead Sled.. but if the object is to minimize shooter variables.... just saying...
Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
10Just so your future purpose isn't a surprise, Mine's a Sinclair, but the Atlas is really nice too.
Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
11Huh. I didn't think your's was the full on F-class bipod? Or is yours the tactical version?
Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
12Yeah, it's the Sinclair tactical. If I had it to do again (now that I don't have the rifle I originally bought it for) I might consider the F class. I also might think about the Joypod, if I was made of money.

Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
13I have the big Caldwell. A set screw fell out somewhere while shooting or hunting and customer service from whoever owns them was rather unhelpful. I ended up pulling the other leg's screw and matching it at Home Depot*. Harris bipods are supposed to be pretty good.

Re: Learned an important lesson about bipods today
14Yeah, I've got a Harris on one of my other rifles, it's definitely a step up in quality, but I will say, the Sinclair tactical is a step up from that one.
