Car Safe

Howdy, all. I couldn't readily find a thread from the past that covers this. If I there is, ignore this and delete with extreme prejudice but plz no bully.

Anyways, I live in Texas. I intend on carrying on campus (and around town, in general) and there's a very good chance I'll eventually be presented with a 30.06 sign at a business I want or need to use or an exclusion zone on campus, both of which carry the full force of state law.

The easiest way to secure my firearms, then, may be in my vehicle, as undesirable as this can be sometimes. Does anyone have a gun case they'd recommend for a vehicle? I drive a full size, extended cab pickup, so I've got a fair amount of space all around to work with.

Good question. I'm still looking for a good answer myself. Most of the portable gun boxes I've seen are junk and not much better than a locking glovebox. The much recommended Gunvault is crap, in my opinion and can be pried open with a little determination and a screw driver. It works for grab-n-go theft prevention, but that's about it.

I have a Fort Knox pistol safe in the bedroom that is pretty stout and could be mounted in a vehicle. It's some cabbage, though.

I've been looking at http://www.consolevault.com since I got a new(er) car earlier this year. I like the idea of having it being completely concealed and actually designed to fit my vehicle over some generic cable mounted box. The two biggest downsides are the cost and giving up the entirety of my console compartment.

Strangely, they don't make one for my Leaf.

Say, that looks nifty! I don't use the console in my vehicle, so I'd have no problem with giving it up to install one of these.

I use that GunVault piece of junk NV300 combo lock in both my F150 (anchored to door hinge) and Blazer Anchored to seat frame). Better than nothing and priced right. I, however, never leave my vehicle(s) for hours on end - generally no more than an hour or less and never un-garaged overnight. In any case, if perp given time the NV300 or anything else you may buy is subject to loss by prying. You pocket book, your choice.

GunVault now part of Cannon Safe. Problems I've had with NV300 (lock failure over several years) were both warranty replaced - once before merger; once afterwards.

Yeah, I've got one of the gun vaults as well. Anchored to my seat. It's better than a sharp stick in the eye, but only barely.
