What do you keep yer guns in when not using them?

#1 Post by SubRosa » Wed Feb 21, 2018 2:08 am

Without giving up something important, that is...

Mine sleep in a vintage Major fire-proof burglary safe. Weighs 800lb empty :see_stars:.

It resides in a room with 16" thick walls, steel entry door.

Not the quickest access, but much slower without the proper keys & combo .

I have a locking Sentry Safe gun cabinet. Weighs about a hundred pounds, but it's bolted to the floor. I'm sure anyone who wanted to open it could open it, but they'd be slowed down some. I've looked at safes, but there's really no place to put one in this small house.

Small gun safe at home. I have one of the lock boxes with a steel cable in the car in case I ever need to leave my CC in the car while I go to the post office or court house.

Most are in a Liberty safe at home. I say most because I work out of town and have an apartment in the town I work in. Here I have been considering a simple locker style safe. I am slowly accumulating enough at my apartment that I am developing a need to do something more than leaning them against the wall in my closet.

Gun safe. No kiddos will be touching them unsupervised. I got the safe before I got the first gun.

Browning fire rated safe with an S&G manual lock (As I distrust an electronic lock for these things. Get off my lawn!)

To keep my guns safe, I have a three number manual combination Sentry gun safe which is locked in a closet. No batteries to go dead, and if I forget the combo, I should not be messing with guns anyway. I also have a locking case for hand gun transportation in California.

It's good that we are taking their security seriously, too many are stolen (or lost due to fires).

On a note more in keeping with my usual perspective, everyone is concerned with safe sex.

Buying a safe big enuf to screw in is really expensive

According to my son, all you need is a padded headboard.

Locked cases and a pistol safe at the moment. Still shopping for a good long gun option that fits our current space.

Hidden and locked gun cabinet that is bolted to studs holds most of my collection...you have to get past 3 locks to access these guns, two to get to the ammo. I do have a hidden revolver safe in another part of the house. This is also bolted to studs.

Keep yer shit locked up people...guns have been around for hundreds of years, and in that time, no gun has ever walked away to commit a crime on its own accord.

Gun safes protect our investments as well as protecting foolish and immature people from themselves.

Since I'm an old fart with an empty nest I'm not too worried. No safe. But I turned my spare bedroom into an office and it has a closet that I can lock up. Also my office is lockable. I have a dog that I have to leave home alone sometimes. The dog can go between the house and the fenced backyard through a dog door so if I have to leave I lock my office.

We need to change the gun culture to encourage people to keep their guns secured at all times (either in a safe or on their person. It would be a great way to decrease gun deaths without new laws.

Rifles are in a rifle safe. Handguns are in separate handgun safes.

Kept in a solid bolted down safe during the day.

During the evening, within my control, unless I’m asleep but then it’s still within reach.

I don’t have kids, but if I did the evening system would be closed and locked. I can open it blind in two seconds.

I like V-Line simplex safes for periodic quick access storage because they’re mechanical, have no bypass key and can be bolted down.
