M1907 sling

1
Going through some slow torture here, so I'm passing my time thinking about accessories. I think every rifle should have a sling regardless of how often it's used. I think I just have an obsession. Thinking a M1 Garand should have a traditional M1907 sling. Any recommendations on the new manufactured ones? Turner? Any other thoughts?

Hmmm...I need a function for that bayonet.

I understand both the leather M1907 sling (through mid-WWII) and the cotton web sling (late WWII and Korea) are considered correct for the Garand.

I have leather slings -- I don't recall the brand, probably whatever they sold on the CMP website -- but I use the web slings more. They're just less fussy.

Some of the new manufacture leather slings have brass hardware ("frogs"), which I think looks kinda cool.

The Garand needs a wider sling than the other rifles I have, so the Garand will get it's own.

Owning both leather and canvas M1907 slings, I use the canvas ones. On everything (except my AK, but that has a canvas AK sling on it).

I've used mostly webbing slings on Service Rifles over the past 40 years, but I have been using a lot of Leather slings the past 2 years. The webbing slings are infinitely adjustable, are cheap, and they work just fine in the rain.

Leather is a pain in the neck when new, does not do well in rain, but you can put together a 1907 sling a bunch of different ways, and one of the ways I have only been shown recently works great (in dry weather).
Turner makes a decent leather sling (I have several) and they make an all-weather one:

Les Tam makes what many people say is the best, but you wait forever:

Ron Brown makes a really good sling (I only have one of his, and I'm really impressed):

Another decent sling maker is Eric Hollis (I just got one of his):

A friend from Arizona named Lee McKinney makes good slings (I have several) but all I have is an eMail address for him.

I'll third the webbing sling- I've got exactly one leather sling and find that the cotton/canvas is the way to roll, particularly on the Garand IMO.

Sikacz, I put a Montana Sling on my new Ruger American Rifle, and I like it a lot. It's got a neat leather knot for adjustment, and there is no metal hardware on it, save for the swivels that come with it. It seems well made, and I like the natural material. I think it's visible in one of the pictures I posted of the rifle on the member's lounge FB page. It was recommended by Carl_Spackler when I was seeking optics for the rifle. I think the leather would look great on milsurp rifles.

Let me know if you'd like any closeup pictures of it, and I'll send them along. :)
