Flash cans? Blast deflectors? Waste of money?

#1 Post by BillMcD » Wed Mar 28, 2018 11:29 pm

I have been starting to see talk and videos about various devices that are supposed to go around whatever muzzle device you have or replace it that is supposed to somehow make your weapon quieter for you and those next to you but not those down range. They can't decide on a name. I've seen cheap ones which are basically a simplified old fashioned flash hider (cup on the end of the gun to hold the flash) and I've seen expensive ones that are made by silencer makers that claim its the next best thing to a silencer.

Is any of this true? Am I getting confused? are any of these worth the money they're asking as compared to your basic A2 flash hider or thread capped/unthreaded barrel?

link?

I'd like to buy several and hand them out at the range to people next to me.

This one you can theoretically use on most standard brakes- I did order one for my Griffin comp and will say, from another one I had previously, they do help to keep the blast from pissing off shooters around you.

And the problem with most is that they are proprietary or come as a full unit, like the flaming pig- the Griffin M4SD linear comp is another option and costs less than buying a QD blast shield- does the same thing.

cheapo replacement https://www.kakindustry.com/ar-15-parts ... sh-can-5-8

one that works with most other devices http://www.indiancreekdesigninc.com/sho ... 14mm-mount

I'm still looking to find something that does both, although going randomly around the internet for this stuff makes me paranoid about my CC info.

Also still unsure if they just serve to increase recoil or actually help with noise.

Basically, what i would want from a device is to reduce side and back concussion/noise, reduce muzzle flash, and if possible, reduce muzzle rise. rearward recoil is best dealt with via a recoil pad in my experience, unless we're talking 50. BMG et al in which case WTF are you doing using that at a small range? :roflmao:

If you're ok with replacing the comp altogether, this one does a bit of everything you're looking for. And don't worry about the online searches, you're already on all the lists.....

I use an inline muzzle brake on my AK. It is most excellent, sends the gasses downrange and does not increase felt recoil. Best brake I have used that didn't piss off shooters next to me even indoors.

I bought this second hand. the 'moron label' laser etch has been painted over, too.

moron label? you mean like an over the top machismo logo or engraving?

Regardless, thanks for the help. I have a much better idea of what to look for now and in the future when i buy a bigger rifle.

I use the SD Tactical Arms brakes on my AR-15 and AR-10. They work well, they allow me to use my homebrew suppressor on either rifle, and they're annoying at the range when the can's not in place.

When not using the can, this spins on over the brake - 25 bucks:

ETA... SD Tactical has a new line of flash hiders with the suppressor mount taper and threads. I've got one on order to try.

ah those. Yeah I can't read latin characters and that is definitely not my phrase of choice.

If i ever went with latin to put on a gun, it would be this.

finis vitae sed non amoris = the end of life, but not of love.
Even if you must shoot something, whether in defense of life or search of food/livelyhood, never forget to have love for your fellows and nature.

Sorry its a late post, but this is something i missed before.

Also, While i can't afford a noveske, I can get a functional knock off for about 30-40 bucks at the gun show. Granted, none of them look as effective as the griffin shinzen linked IMO. The nice thing about simple but effective products is that the patent wears off and you can get a good priced copy of good quality.
