Leather 1911 Holster Recommendations

Post by bajajoaquin »

So, now that I (almost) have a 1911, I'm going to need a holster for it. Okay, "need" isn't the right word, since I don't carry. I'd like a holster for it. Kydex is okay for my Glock, but I think I'd like leather for the 1911.

Aside from Bianchi and Galco, 1791 Leather seems to feature prominently.

I'm looking for OWB, belt-secured. No clips, no paddles. $50-$70 range, if possible.

I have a Tagua with thumb break. It allows the 1911 to be holstered loaded with safety on (thumb break covers hammer and safety).

All my pistols wear high Noon Holsters - Best Damn Holsters on The Planet! Leather or Kydex I have near a dozen of these now and have yet to have a dud.

I carry Appendix IWB. Give a hard look at High Noon's offerings as I have never had one that is "cheap" even the basic, non molded, thin leather holsters are fabulous .

Truth be told, I'm also looking for a leather 1911 holster, a cross draw. There was a WW I style one but I can't find it.

The last time I attended a gun show the most interesting table I saw there was full of holsters. Back in the 70s most of the holsters were made from leather and there was a big pile of them on the table.

Some were used and some appeared to be new and unused, all were fairly affordable. Safariland and Bianchi made some very good ones for general carry uses. My self I prefer a basic Threeperson style rig. Elpaso makes good ones but might be too expensive according to your OP.

Those are nice. Something like the “crosshair” is reasonably priced. I don’t need to cheap out, but also, I don’t carry, so it’s just something to have on my hip when I’m out shooting to feel cool. So there’s no need for something that will stand up to a lifetime of daily wear. :)
