Re: Anyone have ideas on handgun test vises?

The Ransom rest is the only real handgun test vise I am aware of.

That said, there are good methods for shooting a handgun from bags that allow the use of much cheaper gear.

Check these out

http://hyskore.com/products/30033-low-p ... ting-rest/ (this one doesn't look like it gives a good location for wrists?)

I use (on the rare occasion I rest a pistol) either one of my rear rifle bags or just use my rifle rest. Things like this:

The cheapest rest option?

Thanks for the tips Marlene! That Ransom Rest is the idea I'm looking for.

But, budget wise I'm at my rifle rest bag. Looking at the requirements constructing one like Ransom would take a bit of time.

On the first link it showed a shooter using a rifle bag testing a revolver. I'm puzzled at the way he places the revolver on the bag that would have the front of the cylinder with the escaping gases well over the bag. Won't it damage the bag?

I'm definitely getting the idea I can construct one using a variety of bags. Thanks.

This would solve the semi-automatic checks. Just need a few flat bags. I think my rifle set came with a small bag that resembles a bunny bag. The revolver testing might need a bit tweaking.

Ransom type rests to me are only good for a reloader testing loads for accuracy. You can set it up for 50yds and get the best accuracy tests.

For adjusting sights it's probably useless since the rest will shoot to a different point of aim.

Years ago I think Lee offered a much cheaper version but it was very limited as to what gun would fit because you had to use proprietary grip panels to mount the handgun. Being able to eliminate human error at 50 yds for load testing would be great, but expensive.
