Well, with spring break happening I took the opportunity to go to the Flex lab at school to learn how to 3d print stuff. I started with something simple, namely the base plate for a Beretta 89 magazine.
First I had to scan the base.
Here's an image of the file in progress.
I didn't get any pictures of the screen when working with something called Rhino but at that point I was using my scans as a template to clean up the scan.
Finally, a rendering of the base.
Aaaaand here is the magic moment where the plastic gets heated to 210 degrees C.
Completed product next to the original.
Verdict? It ALMOST fits.....I didn't have calipers with me when I measured the slot that accepts the metal tabs from the magazine body. I underestimated by a third of a millimeter. It should be a simple enough fix before printing another base pad.
Spring break. But I'm still hanging around school
1I don't like to think of my self as an artist so much as someone who stares at empty spaces and imagines s--t.
