Outdoor Shooting Areas in Oregon

I recently ventured out to the Tillamook Forest to get to the North Fork Rd Shooting Lanes early on a Saturday and this location is very well known. It was super crowded. Tried the Salmonberry Rd Pit and it was pretty busy too. Wondering if anybody knows of spots that might be further out that are less busy? Thanks.

I don’t do unsupervised outdoor shooting areas anymore. I belong to two private ranges so I don’t have to deal with the yahoos you always get doing dangerous stuff and then trashing the site. Most people are OK, but as usual, the few ruin it for everyone else. So, I don’t know Oregon outspdoor shooting areas very well, but I can provide a link to some useful info (below). North Fork at Tillamook is the most popular, I hear, but there are others if it’s worth it to you to travel that far.

With some regrets, I am in the same camp. When I lived in Alaska and Utah, we used to go unsupervised shooting all the time. As I look back on it, I realize we were pretty safe, but we left a huge mess. Shot up cans, broken bottles. You can shame me all you want: I am actually ashamed. But the locations where we shot were already so trashed out that cleaning up our own personal mess did not make sense to me at that time (late 1970s). Now I could just never leave shot up beer cans out in the desert.

So safety and clean up are the biggest reason I now only shoot at supervised ranges. It is not nearly as much fun. I would MUCH rather see cans hopping in the air. But I had to become a grown up sometime. (Much delayed IMO.)

In Las Vegas,I was using the Clark County Gun Range as my only outdoor shooting spot. I recently found the Pro Gun Club south of Henderson, which save me 30 minutes of driving each way AND is a much better drive. Pro Gun Club has steel targets for pistol shooting - I am going to find out if it is a good enough replacement for aluminum cans :D

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I tried the North Fork Are, it's too crowded. I have a bunch of adhesive paper targets so I don't do can/glass shooting.

I’ve always enjoyed shooting at Wolf Creek just off HWY 26 on the way to Cannon Beach from PDX.
