Aren’t the Mk firing pins pinned so they don’t make contact with the breech face? Certainly my Mk III 22/45 is. I have dry fired it uncountable times and there is not any evidence of a mark.
I thought all the pre-MkIV pistols had an identical firing pin. At least, aftermarket sellers claim the same pin fits all of them. (In the two minutes I was willing to look, I couldn't find out If the MkIV is similar.) I'd have wondered if after MANY dry-firings the hole in the firing pin might peen down enough at the rear to allow the pin to hit the breech face, but from your and eelj's reports it sounds like that pretty much never happens.
