Good for you. Took me a while but I also got a chronograph recently, and it's been an incredibly useful too in analyzing and validating my loads. Plus, it's just fun. For example, I learned that my Brown Bess, with its 42 inch barrel barrel, will launch a 545 grain patched lead ball at nearly 1000 fps with 90 grains of FFg. Frankly, I would have doubted it if I hadn't measured it for myself.

ps. Maybe it wasn't the great bargain you thought it was, but it's a tool. And one that can tell you useful information. Thus I say, use it and learn all the neat stuff you were guessing at before you had it. My guess is that you'll soon forget about the few extra bucks.

Just my opinion...

If you like having data, you won't regret having a chronograph.

If you reload it allows you to use ballistics software (or a good ol' calculator) to determine holdovers for distant targets.

It also can provide a lot of information about small tweaks in your loads that can add up to better accuracy.

get it out and play with it...

I love my scuffed up old Chrony. yes, the telescope tripod will do if there's a camera mount on it. If it's got that telescope yoke on it it won't. Thrift store for camera tripod with long legs that can telescope short.

Pics? I've not seen an unscuffed one for some time now.

Any info that you didn't expect?
Yes like did you shoot it?
Ha! Isn't that every chronograph owner's nightmare?
