20 Round AK Tanker Mags

#1 Post by K9s » Sat May 18, 2019 10:46 pm

I didn't think this belonged in Gun Porn thread, so I posted it here.

I searched high and low for tanker mags for my AMD. They were available (rarely) at very high prices. I also really like the option of 20 round steel AK mags.

I found that one company converts combloc milsurp mags to 20 rounds, but they sell out fast. I was able to buy the last two converted Romanian ribbed mags from a vendor. I contacted the Utah company (Bad Element) that actually produces them and was able to order ten more. I bought that many because I wanted a lifetime supply. :)

They are tough and good looking mags. You really wouldn't know they are converted by looking at them or using them.

Wow, did they chop the bottoms and flare the cuts for holding the baseplate? That’s a lot of work. How much did they charge for each one? A real specialized market for AMD owners in particular.

Nice! 👍

Not sure about the process. These look no different than my Romanian 30 rounders. Just shorter.

Actually, the size of a 20 round AK mag is advantageous for many reasons.

:yahoo:

Bench shooting, weight, and the obvious - a 20 round box fits. I tend to shoot different ammo in each mag (to test POI vs POA and reliability) so I usually load a box of 20 in each 30 rd mag anyway. 30 rounders look cool, but 20 is actually more practical for me.

Bench shooting the Norinco NHM-91 (the Chinese PSL/SVD variant) I do use a snug 10-rounder. I can see how a 20-round mag is more handy and also much less weight when fully loaded.
