New to the Safe in 2020!

Post by bajajoaquin »

The best new rifle in 2019 thread got me thinking that we should have a new guns show-off thread. Rifle, handgun, black powder, shotgun, new, old, whatever. If it's new to you this year, please show off here.

And you know that means I'll start. :yahoo:

It's a Ruger 44 Carbine. I had hoped to find an International (with the Mannlicher stock), but I just don't see them in my budget (except for that one that got away several years ago at $700). This one already had the Williams peep sight and matching taller front blade, as well as a leather sling. The stock is unusual, in that it's darker than normal and has checkering. Not sure if its factory, but I liked the look. Bad pics are from the listing, and I'll get nicer ones when it gets here.

What have you gotten this year?

Very nice, so when are you taking it to the range to throw some lead?

Oh man. I am so jealous. I've had one of those on my list for a few years now.

Those are very cool guns. I wish there was a 357 version and a 10 round magazine.

Posted this elsewhere but my first new gun of the year was a earlyish production WASR-10, still need to take it out to make some loud noises.

I’m never going to pay for the custom work, but I have long thought it would be cool to extend the magazine tube and gas port out more towards the muzzle for greater capacity.

Yes, there is just something about wood and steel that plastic and aluminum can't replace. Congrats, by the way!

Thanks. This was an outgrowth of the threads about not adding calibers, $400 to spend at Bud’s, and the Mannlicher stock desire.

I decided that I wanted a revolver, and as long as I’m getting one, it might as well be a hand cannon, so Taurus was out. Guns last forever, so I might as well save a bit for a Smith. I didn’t get that Ruger Carbine International (went for $1600!) but as long as I’m getting a .44, I’ve wanted one of these for years. And I can change my Gunbroker saved search to look for a stock. The 10/22 international will just have to hold me over for now. That will likely be next (unless an M1A comes up on sale first).

Nice! You went with the Kimber option. Have you shot it yet?

It was much cheaper than the Springfield ($539 on sale) or I would have gone with a Springfield Loaded. Just picked it up and haven't cleaned, lubed, and shot it yet.

Start yourself a saved search on gunbroker. I was looking through my watch list and saw one from a year ago that ended at $300 with no bids and no reserve. I don’t know how I missed it, but deals are out there if you’re patient.

Haven't gotten any new guns in 2020, but I did order a set of Herrett National Adjustable target stocks for my Volquartzen 22/45 lower. Pics when they finally come in.

Nice! A Scorpion is still on my wish list, but I figure at this point I might as well wait for the next generation. How's the trigger with the bullpup conversion?

So before I converted this to a bullpup I had changed out the trigger springs which made a world of difference. The bullpup trigger is a bit mushy, not all that heavy but definitely mushy, I had to put back in the stock trigger springs so I think its probably fairly comparable to that.

Ah okay. Does anyone make trigger mods for the bullpup? If not I'd think somebody would soon, it's such a convenient package for home defense. Screw a can on that beast and it's about as good as it gets.
