Massive meetup in Arizona!

#1 Post by AZAndy » Sun Nov 19, 2017 8:44 am

That's davidpinaz in the foreground, holding a .357 lever-action. I don't know if the young lady is a member here, or if she'd be okay with me mentioning her name, so she'll be sine nomine for the time being. If you look real close, you can see me behind the camera.

The other sixteen people are in the storage shed to the left, rummaging through the supplies, looking to see if anybody left any spare ammo.

There was a plate rack set up in the bay we were in, along with some Pepper Poppers, so fun was had with steel. The nameless woman was shooting a Sig P238, David brought a couple of Beretta 9mms, and there are some revolvers and 1911s on the table because I'm old-fashioned.

My thanks to David and ******* for driving all the way up here from the Valley! Next time, maybe we can find a spot in their neighborhood. Stay tuned!

It is that. I drive to Ohio every other year to visit the parental units, and am amazed every time by how big this country is. Europeans must feel claustrophobic.

When I was in grad school in Columbus, we made many drives to Flagstaff. We were developing an instrument for a telescope at Lowell Observatory. It was indeed a long drive and not a particularly pretty one. We once made the 1800mile drive in 30 hours. It was a death march.

 As an odd coincidence, it's Columbus I was talking about. Coming straight across 70 and 40 is pretty dull, to be sure. I've gone the southern route a few times just for something different-- Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and so on. This year I went north instead-- up to Moab, through Colorado and Kansas (which isn't nearly as flat and dull as I was led to believe).

You made parts for Lowell? I'm very impressed. Anything involving precision makes me swoon, which may be why I enjoy firearms so much. That reminds me, I really need to do Lowell's tour sometime-- Flag is only a little over an hour from me, but I just never think of doing it.

Massive meetup in Arizona!

We generally would take the fastest route: Columbus to St. Louis, then to Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Tucumcari, Gallup, and on to Flag.

Lowell is a cool place. We would spend the summer on Mars Hill and go out to the telescope which overlooks Lake Mary. I love Flagstaff. We lived in Tucson for 21 years and made far too few trips to Flag. Somehow, Phoenix was a major impediment.

If you are ever in Tucson, Kitt Peak is a good day trip, particularly in the summer.

well darn, wish my BF & I had heard about this. We're in the Valley, in the East Valley. Maybe another time? But I don't do Flag in the winter.

I'm thinking Ben Avery might be a good location. Since most of the Arizona members seem to be in or around the Valley, it would be silly for everybody to drive all the way up here.

No Facebook for me, as I have no trust in Mr. Z. If somebody would be generous enough to mention any plans here, you can count me in if it's a weekend.

Pretty good @ cat-herding.

Counting the ferals, there are 11 here.

But, I'd like to meetup (I'd need a rifle range).

I'm out of state at the moment but I've always been open to hosting an LGC meet-up down in Bisbee, AZ. There's an open desert range (free, uncontrolled) that has a pistol range of maybe 50 yards and a rifle range of upwards of 400+ yards. The range is just 10 min from my house in Old Bisbee.
