4There are loading stands that you can buy and they make loading the cylinder easier and more uniform when you are at the range, you don't use the rammer on the pistol. I like to use a seperate powder measure in case there might be a burning coal left which might ignite the powder flask in your hand. For reduced loads you can pour some cream of wheat over the powder so you don't have to seat the ball so deep in the cylinder. Cleaning black powder is quite easy and there is some solvents like Butches bore cleaner that is made for black powder or you can use windshield washer fluid or windex. Crisco makes a great lube and some of the commercial stuff has petroleum in it and really should be avoided. Petroleum and sulpher mixed and heated creates tar. For those who have not used real black you should give it a try, its cheaper gives better ignition and smells great. "I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning it smells like.......history".

8Someone mentioned loading stands? Just 3D Printed this one. This stand is designed for an Colt 1851 as made by Pietta. My pictures show a Remington 1858 repro by Pietta. Doesn't exactly fit perfectly, but works.
