It was great fun. I was there from about 1981 to 2003. When I started, it was the third largest optical telescope in the world. We converted it from a 4.5meter to a 6.5 meter. There are a lot of 8-10 meters out there now.

The MMT was the first truly modern telescope in so many ways: multiple primaries, altitude over azimuth mount, strict thermal control, compact well ventilated enclosure, very low emissivity, integrated active and now adaptive optics. I could go on, and on...
